The problem is that many financial applications have updated their security certificates since 2011. MD 2010 does not have these newer certificates.

MD has its own version of Java embedded in it and does not use any versions you have installed. It is likely that MD is using Java 6 updated 65.

The Quotes and Exchange Updater was substantially rewritten for MD 2017 when Yahoo stopped providing free quotes. The new Q&ER updater may not be compatible with such an old version of MD. I highly suggest updating to the latest released version. It may cost a bit, but you do get half off as a previous user. That isn't a big cost for using the program for 9 years!

Thank you for your comments. I see the version of the Quotes and Exchange Rate I'm trying to load is v82, although on the web site they've got v1024. So I'm wondering if what I'm trying to download is really the latest version?

In any event I would definitely like to get ahold of something compatible. I can understand syncing software does have a shelf life but I'm cheap enough that I'm now seriously considering moving to Excel or even straight-up SQL and building my own custom web services for exchange and markets to manage my personal finances as a matter of control-freakishness, to avoid this kind of lockin situation. On the other hand, that would definitely take more T&M than just opening my wallet... :/

Thanks and best regards,

Q & E R V82 extension was intended for Moneydance 2014 and earlier, how much earlier I do not know/recall, I believe it is that latest version in that series.

The latest Version (1024) will not run on older versions of Moneydance, for a start the API changed in Moneydance 2015 and secondly the certificates it requires are not in the older versions of Moneydance, in fact it requires Moneydance 2017 build 1850 at a minimum.

V82 will not be able to download any rates even if installed as the services it used are no longer available due to decisions make by Yahoo & Google.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/479570212020-01-02T13:17:30Z2020-01-02T13:17:31ZJava error when trying to load extensions??

Hi dwg,

Thank you for this useful information. Indeed, even V82 does not seem to install at all and that does seem mysterious but based on your answer that is perhaps beside the point.

So I guess my options are to write my own extension, to purchase an upgrade to Moneydance or to try my luck with my own custom tools.

Thanks again!

Best regards,
However I have been upgrading MD to fix various bugs as time goes on. Your own custom tools is also a way forward, but it really depends on how much of the features of MD you are using.

If you have been using your original license since 2010, paying $25 after 10 years is really only $2.50/year. I can understand "cheap" but that is actually really cheap!

The Q&ER extension is actually completely non-functional for older versions such as V82. As I said, Yahoo stopped providing free quotes (November 2018) and that version will not download anything as far as I know. The newer version uses AlphaVantage (which I use mostly successfully) and there are various 3rd party plugins that will fulfill some features. There isn't much point in installing the old Q&ER extension on any version of MD.

sth
