I assume you mean you are using Direct Connect to automatically download transactions.

If this is the case you cannot limit it. Moneydance says to the bank's server give me what you have got, Moneydance compares each transaction to what it has on file and if it doesn't exist it stores the transaction. Only by having the transaction in Moneydance will it not be downloaded and stored again.

Normally this does not present much of a problem because most banks limit what is held in their OFX servers to between 30-90 days worth of transactions.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/479794152020-01-08T04:49:08Z2020-01-08T04:49:09ZDeleted transactions keep getting re-downloaded

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, using Direct Connect.

Your answer makes sense, but my understanding from using Mondeydance over the years is that there’s some sort of sync mechanism where it only syncs transactions after the last sync date once the first sync has occurred.

I have been using Moneydance for years and have never had this issue before. I have several times deleted a transaction and never had it show up again, I hope this behavior is not suddenly gone.

Luis Alvestag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/479794152020-01-08T10:35:55Z2020-01-08T10:35:55ZDeleted transactions keep getting re-downloaded

What you describe is how I expect the machine to machine syncing mechanism to work i.e. Moneydance's own syncing between the software on different systems.

For Direct Connect my understanding is that it is using the transaction ID that is part of each OFX transaction (as per the documented OFX standard) as the point of comparison between what is stored in Moneydance and the transactions the server has..

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/479794152020-01-08T14:45:47Z2020-01-08T14:45:47ZDeleted transactions keep getting re-downloaded

Hi Luis,

You might be referring to the Confirmation process. If you have solid blue dots next to the downloaded data, you would want to confirm each transaction (this process is also used to categorize transactions). After confirmation, the transactions will be marked by blue circles. If you delete a transaction, before confirmation, it will come back again on the next download. See below.:

https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/online-banking-and-bill-pay/c...

Note also below:

"The first time you connect to your bank through Moneydance, Moneydance will download all transactions available on your bank's server. This may result in duplicate transactions, especially if you have transferred data from another personal finance program.

In this instance you should try to run through the Confirmation process to merge the duplicates, then delete any unwanted transactions.

Most banks only offer the most recent 30-90 days of transactions on their direct OFX connection server."

30-90 days is the norm, as DWG had described. I can't imagine having to confirm years worth of data.

Hope that this helps,

Thanks again for helping out, you’re on the right path as far as the issues I am having.

To quote from the first link you posted "In this instance you should try to run through the Confirmation process to merge the duplicates, then delete any unwanted transactions.”

It’s the “delete unwanted transactions” that I can’t do. As in, I delete them and they come back at the next import. This is definitely not how the system should work.

As a troubleshooting step, I deleted the checking account completely, added it back in and setup Online Banking. I synced with my bank successfully, confirmed all transactions and then deleted the “unwanted transactions.” As soon as I tried to re-download the transactions from the bank, they call came back.

Given that the support page indicates I should be able to delete unwanted transactions (presumably even a transaction that is a day old) after the initial download, I am led to believe there is something wrong with the sync process with the bank.

Regards,

Thanks for the additional information. Since you've followed the appropriate steps, it definitely sounds like a bank issue. IK Support should be able to help you isolate the problem. Good luck to you!

Best Regards,

My only guess is that I had a corrupted MoneyDance account file.

Luistag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/479794152020-01-10T09:33:15Z2020-01-10T09:33:15ZDeleted transactions keep getting re-downloaded

Glad to hear that you've solved the problem!
