This recently started, December 2019 ... I have an account started in 2016 which is in money dance. I noticed that the balance was off by $15.85 at first ... now it is off by then $765.85 ... my error, no.
bank site. exported the entire account (from day 1) ... opened it with Numbers ... SUM'd the payment and deposits columns ... subtracted payments from deposits ... result matches the bank balance exactly as expected.
I imported the bank file into the moneydance account ... nothing unconfirmed, nothing uncleared. balance is off.
Created a new MD file, account ... imported the bank file ... balance now matches.
As stated, this was all fine until a month or two ago. Would like to correct whatever it is causing the incorrect balance.
In the meantime, I made an adjustment in the account to offset the incorrect balance number (and not in my favor either!)

I am not support staff, just a user.
In your position I would compare the subject account in the two data sets.
Move through the two accounts in say 3-month steps until the balances differ and then look back in that three months to find the error.
You get the idea.
Hope this helps.

I’ve started to do that as time permits.
Has worked fine for years.
