Hi. Windows 10 desktop, Windows 10 Pro, version 1903, build 18362.657. Running Moneydance 2017.10, (1706). When I click on "Tools: Categories", "Tools: Graphs and Reports", or "Tools: Loan Calculator", I can see a window pop up behind the main window, but it is empty and transparent, and there's nothing in it. I suspect I'm having a conflict somewhere with an extension, but I have no idea of which one, or when this may have started and what I did to cause it. I know I need to upgrade to the new version, but haven't yet due to having to do it to all my systems (2 windows, 2 linux). What could be causing blank windows to be presented for these 3 functions I need?
I need to clarify this - When I try to open Loan Calculator and Categories, they both open a transparent pop-up screen behind the main Moneydance register, but they are unusable - there's nothing there other than the outline of a window. When I try to open Graphs and Reports, NOTHING happens. There's no pop-up, no sound, no nothing. Just a useless click. I've disabled most of the extensions, but it still won't show these windows.

    I'm a fellow user.

I think one of the first things to try is to see if some preference that has been set is causing the problem.

To test this, with Moneydance closed, go into the .moneydance folder that is in your home folder and rename the file config.dict to something like config_org.dict.

Start Moneydance, it will start as if it is a new installation, not registered, no loaded data etc.

Open your data and see if the problem is still there, if it has gone it points to something in config.dict as being the issue, if not you can close Moneydance rename the config_org.dict back and look for other causes.

DWG, that did it. I have no idea of what is in the config.dict file, but whatever it is was keeping the reports and categories windows from coming up. I will investigate. Thanks much for your excellent help!

Config.dict contains a lot of information. Things like

    - loaded extensions
    - sort orders
    - Window positions
    - Window sizes
    - column widths
    - license key
    - last used data set

    etc,etc

Yep, I can see that - I opened it up with a text editor and started to
compare it to the new one that Moneydance made when I renamed it
following your post. The new one is much shorter, and seems to be in
some logical order. The old one is all over the place with all the below
topics. I'm wondering what part of that may affect window openings. Is
there a standard to which MD adheres for how that file is organized? Or
does it matter? Thanks for your insight.

I am not aware of any order. I suspect it is not significant.
