I think one of the first things to try is to see if some preference that has been set is causing the problem.

To test this, with Moneydance closed, go into the .moneydance folder that is in your home folder and rename the file config.dict to something like config_org.dict.

Start Moneydance, it will start as if it is a new installation, not registered, no loaded data etc.

Open your data and see if the problem is still there, if it has gone it points to something in config.dict as being the issue, if not you can close Moneydance rename the config_org.dict back and look for other causes.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/481487472020-03-14T06:02:24Z2020-03-14T06:02:24ZUnable to open Category and Loan Calculator Pop-up Windows

DWG, that did it. I have no idea of what is in the config.dict file, but whatever it is was keeping the reports and categories windows from coming up. I will investigate. Thanks much for your excellent help!

salvortag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/481487472020-03-14T06:44:27Z2020-03-14T06:44:27ZUnable to open Category and Loan Calculator Pop-up Windows

Config.dict contains a lot of information.
sort orders

Window positions

Window sizes

column widths

license key

compare it to the new one that Moneydance made when I renamed it
following your post. The new one is much shorter, and seems to be in
some logical order. The old one is all over the place with all the below
topics. I'm wondering what part of that may affect window openings. Is
there a standard to which MD adheres for how that file is organized? Or
does it matter? Thanks for your insight.

salvortag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/481487472020-03-14T07:26:18Z2020-03-14T07:26:18ZUnable to open Category and Loan Calculator Pop-up Windows

I am not aware of any order. I suspect it is not significant.

dwg
