Thanks for reporting. You shouldn't have run into that problem though. We've distributed our own version of Java with the program itself for a few years now, so even if one didn't have Java installed on one's system generally, a version of it should have been installed for Moneydance. To clarify, did you download the program from http://infinitekind.com/downloads? If so, did you install the DEB file, or some other option?

Hi Al

On one of my computers I replaced Windows 7 with a dual boot of Linux Ubuntu 19.10 and Linux Mint 19.3

On both versions of Linux I downloaded “moneydance_linux_amd64.deb” from https://infinitekind.com/download-moneydance-personal-finance-software
by clicking on Download Deb

Once downloaded double clicking on “moneydance_linux_amd64.deb” opens the “Package Installer” window to install. No issues, nothing else to install, Moneydance just worked when you click on its icon. I copied my data set folder to the Documents folder in “.moneydance” folder. I also copied my setup files config.dict and if you have set up a Theme the custom_theme.properties file from/to the “.moneydance” folder.

As Ethan stated no need to install Java.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/481516042020-03-12T11:46:10Z2020-03-12T11:46:12ZMoneydance installation on Ubuntu 18.04

Just wanted to give an update.

Not sure what happened with the initial installation from your site. I reinstalled a new copy of Ubuntu in Virtual Box this morning (18.04.3), After installation (and the installation of guest essentials). I downloaded and installed Moneydance from your site. Installed fine and ran without issue.

The problem I ran into with Ubuntu was related to installing from the Ubuntu software repository. This attempts to install from the Snap beta channel. Other people have had this issue as well and currently Moneydance only has a 2 out of 5 stars rating because of it. To get the beta channel installation to run I had to install the openjdk.

Sorry for the confusion.

Al Curtis
