Do you remember which version you were running on your previous system? In general, you can install the same version on your current system and use your existing license key to reregister the program. However, if you were using a much older version of the program, it may not run on a newer operating system. If you could let us know which version you were running and your current operating system, we could provide more detailed instructions.

I was running Version 2015.2(1145) on a MacBook Pro running mac OS Mojave , Version 10.14.6. I managed to get the old computer up and retrieve that info. I can get into my current version of $dance and I have backed-up the old computer with “time Machine". I would still like to move the $Dance app to the new computer and capture the current data. What is the best easy to accomplish that? Is it possible to run $Dance on both computers for awhile until I’m comfortable that everything is fixed? Thanks again.

Thanks for the additional information. My guess is that you'd have to run Moneydance 2019 on a 2019 MacBook Pro, although if you let me know the operating system that system is using I can tell you for sure. There's also no harm in trying to install the 2015 version on that system, but my guess is that it won't run, because Apple made major changes to it's operating system since that release, especially if you are running Catalina.

If you do need to use the 2019 version, since you purchased a previous version of Moneydance, you are entitled to a discounted half-priced upgrade. To confirm your license for a discounted upgrade, submit your license key using the Upgrading field on our purchase page at: http://infinitekind.com/purchase

If you don't know your license key you can see it by running Moneydance and selecting Help->About Moneydance (or Moneydance->About Moneydance on a Mac), or by using the 'Lost Key' tool on the purchase page.

As far as using Moneydance on both systems, you have two general options. One would be to manually move your data file to the new computer, which is what you would do if you are considering permanently moving to your new system. Those instructions are at: https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/file-locations-and-changes/mo...

The other option would be to set up syncing between both computers. This would be if you want to use Moneydance on both systems (or additional computers) and have the data update automatically between them. Those instructions are at: https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/syncing-and-sharing-data/sync...

If you are wanting to use Moneydance on both systems, you will likely need to upgrade both systems to the 2019 version. If you are just moving your data file, and just wanted to be sure that things were ok before permanently leaving your old system, you wouldn't have to upgrade that older computer.

There are some bad side effects with older versions of MD.

sthtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/483526982020-05-23T12:45:07Z2020-05-23T12:45:08ZComputer Died

Thanks so much for all your help. I was able to get everything working as you said. $dance has a few shortcomings but service is not one of them. Be well.Fred
