Open your xls file with Excel and "save as" csv (comma delimited). Then you can import the CSV file with Moneydance.

If you don't have Excel, you can get a free compatible spreadsheet program called Softmaker Office. There spreadsheet program (PlanMaker) will load XLS files and save as CSV.

mhoggietag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/483980052020-06-11T19:09:34Z2020-06-11T19:09:34ZImport bank fil

Hi Jarle Lidal,

As forum member mhoggie mentioned, you will first need to open your bank's XLS file in Excel and use the 'Save As' option to Save the file as a CSV (comma separated value) file. (sometimes referred to as a comma delimited file).

You should now have an Eksempel.csv file.

Open Moneydance.
From the Menu bar, go to File > Import.
A file browser will open allowing you to navigate to the Eksempel.csv file that you just created.
You should then be presented with a form similar to the attached screenshot.
(Import_CSV_1.jpg)
Make sure to set the Date Format: to 'Year Month Day'.
Click 'Next'.
In the resulting form, set the fields as displayed in the attached screenshot.
(Import_CSV_2.jpg)
Click 'Finish'.
Look to the attached screenshot of the register.
(Import_CSV_3.jpg)
If the transactions look OK to you then that is all you need to do.
The importer should remember the settings going forward.

If there is something that is not OK with the transactions, let me know and you can explain what you would need changed.

I am another user. I noticed in your Excel file you have two sheets. The first is blank. Perhaps that is the reason. Make sure you select the correct sheet before saving as csv.

Again, can you attach your converted Eksempel.xls file that you saved as a CSV file? e.g. Eksempel.csv

With the CSV file that you are attempting to import we may be able to discover the anomaly as to why it is not importing for you.

Here is a file + a picture of different files I can save the excel document to. I have tried all of the CSV types of files, but it won’t work.
Picture 1, 2 and 3 shows how I am importing the fil. Picture 3 shows that nothing is imported.

Your Test.csv file uses a semi-colon ( ; ) as the Field Delimiter and a comma ( , ) as the Decimal Point.

Try changing those two settings on the importer. Doing so, I was able to import your Test.csv file.

A useful tip is that you can open any CSV file in a simple word processor to see what it uses for a delimiter, decimal point and how the Date is formatted.
