Hi lexrom

The following is the most likely scenario.

In situations where you have a security in two investment accounts, but only one updates when you run Quote Loader, you have set things up incorrectly.

Under TOOLS – SECURITIES you have set up two instances of the same security, using the same ticker symbol, this is the reason for the problem.

You should only ever set up one instance of a security with a given ticker symbol under TOOLS – SECURITIES. You can then add this security to more than one investment account.

To correct this situation, proceed as follows:
First do a FILE (MONEYDANCE on Mac) – EXPORT BACKUP.
Determine which of the investment accounts has the least transactions related to the subject security
1. In the investment account SECURITY DETAIL tab use the drop down to select the subject security. Click HISTORY then EDIT and change the name of the Security to CHANGE ME.
2. Then in the same investment account SECURITY DETAIL tab, click ADD SECURITY and add the subject security to the account.
3. Now click on the REGISTER tab and select the transactions that contain CHANGE ME in the SECURITY field using the dropdown to select the subject security. You need to do this everywhere a transaction contains CHANGE ME.
4. Back in the SECURITY DETAIL tab click on REMOVE SECURITY and select CHANGE ME in the dropdown. Then click OK.
Done, now when you check under TOOLS – SECURITIES there is only one subject security and when you use Quote Loader both investment accounts are updated.

Another user had the same issue. In his case he had the security “Vanguard Short-Term Bond Index Fund ETF Shares” duplicated under TOOLS – SECURITIES.
I put together a YouTube video that showed the corrective action I had laid out for him. Take a look it will help you to understand the corrective process. Use this link to go to a YouTube video. https://youtu.be/Mulo9XkklAY

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/484714252020-07-18T17:55:46Z2020-07-18T17:55:46ZQuote Loader

Thanks for the advice. When I hit Remove Security, I hit OK and a box
comes up where I have to type in "yes" and a warning that I will loose
all transactions associated with this account. Will I still have the
history and prices for this security??

Hi lexrom

The fact you are being presented with a box requiring you to type “yes” indicates not all transaction in all your investment accounts no longer read CHANGE ME in their REGISTER transaction Security field. Take a look and change out as required. When you have changed out all these transaction you want see the yes request dialog.
Provided as advised you did an EXPORT BACK if thing do go wrong you can recover by doing a RESTORE FROM BACKUP.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/484714252020-07-18T18:24:58Z2020-07-18T18:24:58ZQuote Loader

I'm a little confused. Do I have to make the security CHANGME in both
Hi lexrom

All this assumes that you have set up duplicate securities under TOOLS – SECURITIES with the same Ticker Symbol, may be with different names to add to your different investment account.

The security you don’t rename as part of the process is the one you want to appear in all investment accounts.

The aim is to end up with only one instance of a security in all accounts and thus only one instance of that security under TOOLS – SECURITIES.

You should only rename one of the duplicate securities to CHANGE ME. Where this appears in any investment account Register as a transaction change it to the remaining duplicate.

When you have done this, you should not get the yes box request and no duplicates under TOOLS -SECURITIES.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/484714252020-07-18T20:29:52Z2020-07-18T20:29:52ZQuote Loader

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi lexrom

Just to add its worth checking in each investment account that in its SECURITY DETAIL window if you click REMOVE SECURITY that CHANGE ME does not exist in the drop down list. If it does select it click OK and click YES to ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO DELETE …… message.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/484714252020-07-18T20:35:33Z2020-07-18T20:35:33ZQuote Loader

After I change the name to changeme, I hit add security. Is "changeme"
Hi lexrom

“After I change the name to changeme, I hit add security. Is "changeme" supposed to be in the dropdown menu??”

No. Any security that is already in an investment account does not appear in the investment account ADD SECURITY dropdown.

I am getting lost, not sure what you have or haven’t done in the process. Can you review the 4 step process and post were you are having a problem?

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/484714252020-07-18T21:05:59Z2020-07-18T21:05:59ZQuote Loader

I change the security name to 'changeme",I close the edit box and go to
Hi lexrom

Below I am trying to relate your comments to the process steps.

Determine which of the investment accounts has the least transactions related to the subject security

1 In the investment account SECURITY DETAIL tab use the drop down to select the subject security. Click HISTORY then EDIT and change the name of the Security to CHANGE ME.

YOU STATE “I change the security name to 'changeme",I close the edit box “

That sounds correct.

2 Then in the same investment account SECURITY DETAIL tab, click ADD SECURITY and add the subject security to the account.

YOU STATE “and go to changeme in the dropdown. I hit add security and it adds the first security in the dropdown box ,not changeme.”

In step 2. The subject security is not changeme it’s the security you want to use instead of changeme. The security name you want to end up with in all accounts so you don't have duplicate securities. Use the ADD security dropdown to find and add it.

You should now be able to proceed with the rest of the steps. If you still have problem perhaps some screen shot could help me understand the problem you are having.

3 Now click on the REGISTER tab and select the transactions that contain CHANGE ME in the SECURITY field using the dropdown to select the subject security. You need to do this everywhere a transaction contains CHANGE ME.

4 Back in the SECURITY DETAIL tab click on REMOVE SECURITY and select CHANGE ME in the dropdown. Then click OK.
Done, now when you check under TOOLS – SECURITIES there is only one subject security and when you use Quote Loader both investment accounts are updated.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/484714252020-07-18T22:57:21Z2020-07-18T22:57:21ZQuote Loader

I'm still unable to get this to work. I still get the box that says to
type yes. If the changeme name is in my graphs, could that be causing
the problem?

Lex

lexromtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/484714252020-07-19T07:01:05Z2020-07-19T07:01:05ZQuote Loader

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi lexrom

Let’s work through the points below with you confirming each point.

POINT 1
In the screen shot lexrom 1 you will see that in an investment account SECURITY DETAIL window I have used the dropdown to select the security CHANGE ME and the heading for the graph is also called CHANGE ME. Can you confirm this is what you are seeing?

POINT 2
In screen shot lexrom 2 I have clicked on the REMOVE SECURITY button and used the dropdown in the resulting window to select CHANGE ME. Can you confirm this is what you are seeing?

POINT 3
If you now click OK you are getting the window in screen shot lexrom 3. Can you confirm this is what you are seeing?

POINT 4
If this is what’s happening then in one of the investment accounts registers there is still a least one transaction where CHANGE ME is the security in the transaction SECURITY field. Have a look at all your investment accounts. See screen shot lexrom 4. Can you confirm this is what you are seeing?

POINT 5
You need to edit the security field in the transaction using its dropdown to select the duplicate security. See screen shot lexrom 5. Once you have selected the duplicate security the transaction should look like screen shot lexrom 6. Can you confirm this is what you are seeing?

POINT 6
If you have performed point 5 on all instances of transaction that have CHANGE ME in the security field in all investment accounts, then when you clicked on the REMOVE SECURITY button and used the dropdown in the resulting window to select CHANGE ME then OK you should not see the window shown in screen shot lexrom 3 instead it should look like screen shot lexrom 7. Can you confirm this is what you are seeing?

POINT 7
If this is the case click YES.

POINT 8
You need to check that CHANGE ME does not still exist in any other investment account. In each investment account SECURITY DETAIL window use the dropdown to see if CHANGE ME still exists. If it does select it and use the REMOVE SECURITY button to remove it.

POINT 9
Under TOOLS – SECURITIES CHANGE ME should no longer exist.

Let me know exactly what happens a each point if something does not work as described.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/484714252020-07-19T13:10:38Z2020-07-19T13:10:38ZQuote Loader

Your screenshot of the register shows dropdown arrows in the security
field. I don't have them in my register. I am enclosing my own screen

The first one is how the register looks after I change Olin to changeme.
The second is after I select everything in the register, I then go to
Securities Detail and hit remove security, from the dropdown I pick
changeme and I get the type in box.

Changeme does not come up in any other account.

Hi lexrom

GREAT!
So, you have now eliminated all the duplicates and when you use Quote Loader all your securities in all your investment accounts are updated?

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/484714252020-07-19T17:31:19Z2020-07-19T17:31:19ZQuote Loader

Yes everything works fine.
