You problem suggest that the software may be getting confused but what I could not speculate at the moment.

I suggest you try renaming the config.dict file, which will make Moneydance look al i a new install, it does not affect data.

If you're using Mac OS, it should be located at one of these locations within your Home folder:

~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/config.dict

or:

~/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/config.dict

If you have any trouble finding your Home Library folder you can open Finder and hold down the option key while selecting the Go menu and the Library folder option should occur or you can open Finder and select Go -> Go to Folder and copy and paste in the following:

~/Library

This should pull up your local Library folder.

If you're using Windows, it should be located under your login directory at:

C:\Users(yourusername).moneydance\config.dict

or

C:\Documents and Settings(yourusername).moneydance\config.dict

Depending on your version of Windows

If you're using Linux it should be located in your home folder at:
~/.moneydance/config.dict

Once you've found your config.dict file, close Moneydance and rename it (to something like config-org.dict, for example), then open Moneydance again and it will appear as though you've just installed Moneydance for the first time and may have to locate and open your data set again.

Now see if it works as expected.

If it does you can continue using the new configuration file by while viewing your data file, choose Help --> Register Moneydance and input your license key.

If you run into any problems, you can simply close Moneydance and rename config-org.dict file back to config.dict and open Moneydance again to restore your original settings.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488981632020-12-18T22:55:37Z2020-12-18T22:55:38ZQIF import promp on startup

Thanks for the reply,

Looks like it is time to start with the basics then. The first thing is for you to provide a copy of the Moneydance error log, so we can see if it sheds any light on what is going on.

If you are using Mac OS, it should be located at one of these locations within your Home folder:

~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/errlog.txt

or:

~/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/errlog.txt

If you have any trouble finding your Home Library folder you can open Finder and hold down the option key while selecting the Go menu and the Library folder option should occur or you can open Finder and select Go -> Go to Folder and copy and paste in the following:

~/Library

This should pull up your local Library folder.

If you are using Windows, it should be located under your login directory at:

C:\Users(yourusername).moneydance\errlog.txt

or

C:\Documents and Settings(yourusername).moneydance\errlog.txt

Depending on your version of Windows

If you are using Linux it should be located in your home folder at:
~/.moneydance/errlog.txt

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488981632020-12-18T23:36:42Z2020-12-18T23:36:46ZQIF import promp on startup

Thanks again,

here is the error log

TheClerktag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488981632020-12-18T23:48:57Z2020-12-18T23:48:57ZQIF import promp on startup

It looks like it’s trying to open C:\Users\mcjth\Downloads\Transactions.qfx upon startup. Are you running from a batch file with parameters? Have you specified parameters in the launch icon?

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488981632020-12-18T23:54:27Z2020-12-18T23:54:27ZQIF import promp on startup

The software is trying to process a QFX file, I cannot see why. I think this will take someone with more experience than I to work out what is going on here.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488981632020-12-19T00:17:26Z2020-12-19T00:17:26ZQIF import promp on startup

When I manually import transactions, it downloads in that path and, one of the accounts create a file named transactions.qfx.

So, it might have been because I copied the error log just after doing the manual import; once I download the file, Moneydance automatically opens (if not open already) and process the file. Might explain why the log shows that.

I am copying the current errorlog file which does not show that line. The popup from my initial issue still show though.

TheClerktag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488981632020-12-19T00:24:19Z2020-12-19T00:24:19ZQIF import promp on startup

The new log file is clean as far as I can tell.

The most basic reason for opening to a import screen is double clicking on a say a QIF file or on a file type that is associated with Moneydance, or having an Icon that points at such a file.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/488981632020-12-19T01:19:29Z2020-12-19T01:19:30ZQIF import promp on startup

Crap! I had a "duh" moment when reading that last reply...

When opening Moneydance myself, I always use the desktop shortcut I created.

Sure enough, after reading the reply, I opened Moneydance via the start menu and, it opens correctly that way.

Somehow, the shortcut is broken or something...

Thanks dwg and all who tried to help.

TheClerk
