Sounds like an Unconfirmed Transaction window and/or a Sort order issue.
To the right of the New Transaction button is the split screen button click this to toggle the Unconfirmed Transaction window.
Also Highlight a transaction, right click a note the two selections.
Ascending and Sort By.
Make the required selection for both.
You can also change sort order by clicking the headings, Date, Description etc. Note the arrow right of the selected sort order heading. Clicking again changes ascending / descending order.

I agree this sounds like a sorting issue. Let us know if the above suggestion doesn't help.
