What version of MD?
Did you get a popup message and MD abort, or is this in the console log?
Can you find and post errlog.txt?

Hi Peter ,
We are sorry to hear about the problem you have encountered.
This shouldn't be able to happen unless there's been some change to a part of the data file outside of Moneydance's control. Can you let me know if you store your Moneydance file on a shared folder such as iCloud, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc?
If you are syncing your data with a mobile device, or another system - you should NOT move your data file to a shared folder location, like Dropbox. The file should remain on your local system if your data is being synced or shared, as outlined here.
Moving the file back to the default location should resolve the problem.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

Hello to both of you, and thank you for your help.
I have resuscitated my files by going back to the backups. How can I
get rid of the unwanted files shown in the
selection list?
My problem started when my mouse (yes, I still use one, being an O.A.P.)
and also my touch pad failed to respond, so I could not enter any info,
and decided to switch off using the on/off switch. I was able to use a
smaller account, but had lost my main accounts. In effect I lost two
days input, so not difficult to correct.
Another query I have is the Budget. On the smaller account I can not use
the budget as previous (i.e. amount, description, amount and period. It
has an infuriating column-based listing which has completely baffled me.
How can I get the original budget set-up, please?
Thanks for your help.

In response to your questions:
"How can I get rid of the unwanted files shown in the selection list? "
If you wish to delete a data set navigate to Help and click Show Document Folder. A file finder/explorer will open at the default data set location.
Close Moneydance.
A data set is a folder containing other folders and files. It has the naming convention yourdatasetname.moneydance. Delete this folder.
When you start Moneydance, it will open in the last opened data set, unless it was the one you just deleted. In which case it will open in the Welcome window and if there are any other data sets, they will be listed on the right.
If you meant something different, please elaborate.

In order to investigate the problem, can you provide the following information:

Thank you

To Maddy (Support staff)
Thank you for your reply of 1st December. I trust you had a nice
Christmas and that the New Year will be
good for you.
My apologies for not replying earlier. I have managed to remove
the unwanted files, as you suggested.
However I am still failing to get the correct budget listing. I have
tried the screenshot as per your e-mail, but
can not extract the info. You can probably put it down to 'age-related'.
The version I am using is 2022 (4054). I set up 2022 Budget as
normal, but at the turn of the year it has
changed to this new format. I can not get access to change anything, it
just shows a dead screen, with no
ability to use edit, etc. Last year the larger accounts set performed
correctly, but the smaller not, although I
was using the identical version.
I will try to set out the screen as I see it:-
Dec 2021 Jan
2022 Feb 2022
Income £3,565 of 0 Income £3,366 of
£3,565 Income £1,344 of 0
Expenses £4,825 of 0 Expenses £2,123 of
£4,897 Expenses £1,490 of 0
Bank Credits £5 of 0 £4
of £5 0 of 0
Bank Interest 0 of 0 0
of 0 0 of 0
Carers Allow. £270 of 0 £338 of
£270 £68 0f 0
Etc, etc etc.
I can move sideways to earlier, of forward to later, but when I
have specified a year, how is that possible?
When I entered the amounts I could see all the listings, just
needing to scroll down. The new listings would require a lot of
searching, and I do not understand the figures. I have managed to
extract some budget values in January, but they are all pro-rated, so do
not give a true picture when a payment or receipt is on a fixed date.
Can you help, before I tear out the remainder of my hair, please.
Regards
Peter Boyce

Sorry to hear that the problem persists, Peter!
Can you try upgrading to the latest preview version, as this should hopefully fix the problem for you?
Moneydance 2022.3 (4063) is now available to download from this page.
For a full list of improvements in the preview version, please refer to this page.
If the problem persists, could you let us know which Budget format are you using?
There are two types of budget available within Moneydance, and you can read about them both in this section of the knowledge base.
I'm trying to understand whether you have chosen a different budget type or if the "usual" budget (for you) is not being displayed as expected.
Please keep us posted on your progress, Thank you!

'Eureka' Yes, you are quite right, the choice of mixed instead
of Monthly was the problem. I have mostly
monthly items, so pressed that, not realising the difference due to a
new budget format. Will I be able to use
this for future years? Have also updated to 2022.3 (4063) although this
was not shown as a new option.
Glad that I was able to put it right. We bought a new T.V. for
Christmas, and that started to lose all the
stations overnight. I had several suggestions from the shop I bought it
from, until they told me another
customer had suffered the same problem. Then the same LG T.V.s in the
shop failed. Turned out it was
something set by the manufacturer, and hidden in all the technology.
I used to be a computer programmer back in the early 70's, but so
much has changed. However, I do
feel more competent than the average person. Unfortunately technology
moves so fast, it is impossible to
keep up-to-date. Age also takes its toll, but I still link up all my
Hi-Fi systems without any help!
My sincerest thanks for all your help.

Not at all, Peter, you are welcome!
I'm glad to hear that it wasn't a major issue and you seem to be all set now.
I thought you might be interested in a new feature included in Moneydance 2022.3 (4063) that offers a different budgeting method.
This is called Foresight Budgeting.
For Getting Started with Foresight you can refer to this article of the Knowledge base.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.
