If you wish to create a new data set with just your accounts and categories based on your current data set, then you should do the following:

Export your Moneydance data to a QIF file. Make sure that you know and understand the exact location of where you create the QIF file, you'll need it shortly.

Create a new Moneydance data set using the 'Minimal Account Set' option.

When the new Moneydance data set opens, delete any existing accounts & categories.

Install the Toolbox extension.

Open the Toolbox. Click on the 'Menu: General Tools' button.

In the resulting form, select the 'Older' Import QIF file and set parameters' option.

Click 'Proceed'. Navigate to and select your QIF file that you exported earlier.

In the resulting form, look over the options. You can likely leave most of the options set to their defaults. The one however that you MUST choose is the (structure only) option.

Click through the next few prompts and allow the file to import (it may take a moment or two.)

Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

I can see you’ve received a reply from one of our knowledgeable Moneydance customers on Dec 21, in post 1 here. If this solution is not suitable for you, you can try another alternative below:

If your goal is to keep your original data file's structure but empty it from all transactions. You could create a backup from File->Export Backup and save it (e.g) to your desktop. Close Moneydance, rename the file (to prevent confusion) and double click on it to open it.
You would have to go through each account, highlight the relevant transactions in the register, click on the first transaction, hold down SHIFT, then click on the last transaction, this will select multiple transactions, at once.
Once the desired transactions are highlighted, right-click (CTRL-click for Mac) on any of them and from the resulting context menu, select Delete.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

Your dataset might be larger than the original.. However, you can then address this by using Toolbox extension, hacker mode, hacker menu, shrink dataset (and select 1 day) to reduce the dataset size (only do this after you have removed all the txns)..

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)
