Security Price Entry
I installed the Security Price Entry extension. The description says it will show a list of my securities but all it shows is a blank page with the current date. If I click the page, a box to set the price as current show up and the Security column heading. Click again and the Current Price heading appears, click again and the New Price heading appears, Click again and $ 1 shows up under current price,
Nothing else happens..

Hi denmak38
I don’t normally use the extension Security Price Entry to manually enter prices I use Quote Loader extension to obtain price automatically.
However, on Windows 11 running Moneydance 2022.3(4063) the Security Price Entry v105 looks like the screen shot. Have you filled in each Edit Security window correctly. See example screen shot.
What’s your computer operating system?
What version/build of Moneydance are you running?
What version of Security Price Entry?

Thanks Derek.
I have windows 10 and Moneydance 2017.10 (1706).
I have been using moneydance for a long time and have a ton of stocks in
my list, most of which I no longer own. It appears the Price Entry
extension would show everything rather than just the currently owned
stocks. The sheer quantity of stocks may be the problem
I was using the Stock Rate Updater (have used it for years). It
suddenly started giving me something strange. It would show a message
that it was unable to get the price and the "stock" it showed was
^99.... (a multidigit number).
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the extension. It uninstalled but
wont reinstall. I click the install, it shows downloading and then just
go back to showing the install button.
I created a conversation about it. I forgot that I had a login for the
forum and just used my name and one of my other email addresses.
That is the problem I would really like to get fixed. The Price Entry
extension was just an alternative fix.
Thanks,
Dennis

Hi denmak38
The best I can suggest is to upgrade your version of Moneydance.
If you purchased Moneydance 2017 then 2020 is a free upgrade.
You can download 2020 from https://infinitekind.com/previous-versions-of-moneydance
Failing that you can get a 50% discount on 2022 using the upgrading box at https://infinitekind.com/purchase.
Download 2022 from https://infinitekind.com/preview
With 2020 or 2022 you can use the extension Quote Loader the current version does not run on 2017.
The extension Quote Loader under EXTENSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSION
For information on the features of this extension and how to use see post 200 at
https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/investments/4914-the...
Download the PDF’s attached to post 200 and have a read.
To get an overview take a look at the YouTube videos by using the links on page 1 and 2 of the PDF.
Let us know how you get on or if you need help just post.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Derek -
I thought about upgrading as a possible solution. I didn't know the
2020 would be free and was about ready to pay the upgrade fee. I have
been using Moneydance since at least 2004 so I may not be eligible for
the free upgrade.
I just watched the videos. WOW! This looks fantastic.
I will read the PDF and let you know if I have any questions.
Thanks again for all the info and the quick response.

I'm a fellow user.
I would not anticipate any problems running 2017.10 on Windows 10 - I have much older versions running well.
There is no ability in Moneydance to mark no longer used Securities inactive hence no way of hiding them. That being said I have over 80 secutities and the Security Price Entry extension has no problems.
If you post the part of your license key to the left of the hyphen it should allow us to identify what versions of Moneydance it will work with while not revealing your key to anyone.

Hi denmak38
Glad you liked the videos, they took a lot of work to put together, but the real work was done by Mike creating the extension.
Out of interest which video did you watch.
Anyway, let use know how you get on reading the PDF and using Quote Loader.

I first watched the short video and then the longer one. Since a lot
(all?) of the short video is in the long one I skipped over some parts.
I upgraded to 2020 and installed Quote Loader. I followed the PDF and
everything went fine (almost). One fund was not updated, VLCAX. I went
to Yahoo Finance and VLCAX looks normal (current and historic data).
Any ideas where the problem could be?
What is the difference between Yahoo and Yahoo HD?
Thanks again. This was super easy and really fast. Using the Updater
Extension it took 30 minutes to update my 18 stocks.
Regards,
Dennis

I'm a fellow user.
There are two data streams for each quote source. The standard stream has the latest available price. The HD streams are time series streams that contains the closing price for each day, in Yahoo HDs case for about a year for FT HD about a month.from memory.

Hi denmak38
Yes, Quote Loader is fast and lets you see what’s happen before, during and after you click GET PRICES.
All four sources FT, FT HD, Yahoo and Yahoo HD for VLCAX (Vanguard Large Cap Index Admiral) assuming this is your security, all returned the same price, see the example screen shot. Make sure the Ticker Symbol is correct in the EDIT SECURITY window.
In addition to dwg comments see PDF page 6 under the heading FINDING AND USING THE CORRECT SECURITY TICKER SYMBOL first paragraph. Also see RETRIEVING HISTORICAL DATA page 7 of the PDF. HD sources can be used with the tick box RETRIEVE MISSED PRICES to obtain missed prices.
Hope this helps.

Derek and dwg - Thanks for the suggestions and the difference between
Yahoo an Yahoo HD.
I knew the ticker was correct because it had been working for some time
with the old rate updater extension.
It apparently was just a glitch. I changed the source from Yahoo HD to
Yahoo and it worked. I then changed it back to Yahoo HD and it still
worked. The only minor problem was the missing prices for that one fund
were not downloaded. SInce it is only a few weeks I am not going to
bother filling them in.
I guess the only thing I can think of that I might want would be the
ability to update just a single stock.
If I add a new stock, and all the others have current history, is there
a way to get some history for the new stock?
Thanks.

Its been a while but if I remember correctly with the HD quote sources QL will load prices since the older date to now (if available), however if you say have a recent price and a hole in the prices before that date it will not go back and fill with prices.

Hi denmak38
To get historical prices select a HD source and ensure the box RETRIVE MISSED PRICES is ticked
After you click GET PRICES and the run is complete you can rather than clicking CLICK TO SELECT ALL LINES just tick the lines you want to save then click SAVE SELECTED VALUES.
However saving all line does no harm, already stored prices are no changed.
All the above and more explained in PDF.
Hope this helps
