If you click on the right hand side where the data is listed it says not permitted. If you double click the data file (saved elsewhere) it opens and functions OK. from the functioning data I've taken a back up which has saved as a moneydancearchive file but this will not open. What might be the problem?

Clare McBeathtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/495717622021-12-30T14:07:39Z2021-12-30T14:07:39ZFile weirdness

Hi Clare,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

Which version and build of Moneydance are you using?
To check, open Moneydance and select Moneydance --> About Moneydance.

Can you let us know which operating system you're running on your computer/s?
Did you move your data file/s from the default location, for instance?

Generally, to find a specific data file, you should open Moneydance and click on File > Open, then you will see a list of all recently opened data files.

If you cannot find your data file there, then click on Help > Show Document Folder, this will open your default data file location, where all of the data files are located.

Another option is to click on Help > Show Archive Folder, this will open the default backup file location and you can choose to restore a backup.

Finally, Moneydance creates automatic backup files each time you close your file until the set number exist, then each file will be updated in turn.

If these files are stored in the default location, they're accessible from Moneydance via Help --> Show Backup Folder.

If you wish to amend the backup file settings, you should choose Moneydance --> Preferences, then select the 'Backups' tab, as outlined in this article of the Knowledge Base.

From this window, you can amend the backup location, and choose the maximum number of backups to be stored.

You could amend the backup location, so the automatic backup files are sent elsewhere, if you prefer. For example, you could choose an external drive, or a shared folder location like Dropbox. This will ensure your data is accessible from another system, even if you were to encounter complete computer failure.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

I’m using Moneydance version 2015.5 (1225)
My operating system is MacOS Big Sur version 11.5.2

I am not aware of moving data files from the default location but did accidentally drag the window onto the desktop and then into the bin

When I click on the File Open from Moneydance I can see the recently opened data files but they are greyed out and when I click on them it just says file not responding.

When I go into the Moneydance Help there is no option to show backup files and when I search for this it does not come up in the list.

When I go into Moneydance Preferences there is no back up tab.

Please advise

many thanks
Clara

Clare McBeathtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/495717622021-12-30T15:24:45Z2021-12-30T15:24:45ZFile weirdness

Thank you for the additional information, Clara!

You are experiencing a compatibility issue.
