Just make sure you have expense under expense and income under income etc.

The other option is find replace tool to move txns.

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/495759482022-01-01T23:14:02Z2022-01-01T23:14:04ZIncorrect Category Type

Stuart,

Many thanks for the prompt reply. I have a rummage in the toolbox but can’t
see a function to change Category types. However there are plenty of other
useful tools in there.

To solve this, I will change the transactions with the offending Categories
to a dummy category. Delete the incorrect Category and then re-create with
the right ‘type’, then reassign the transactions.

Martin Wardtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/495759482022-01-01T23:15:46Z2022-01-01T23:15:46ZIncorrect Category Type

Your approach will work fine.

FYI. The toolbox function will be in advanced mode, account tools menu, force change account type (I think).

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/495759482022-01-02T00:57:42Z2022-01-02T00:57:42ZIncorrect Category Type

Stuart is correct on the toolbox function.

Moneydance is based on accounting and categories are really just a specific type of account. As a Savings account is a type of bank account a category is a type of Income or Expense Account.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/495759482022-01-02T18:27:05Z2022-01-02T18:27:11ZIncorrect Category Type

Thank you very much to Stuart and dog. I now fully understand.

Martin Ward
