I'm not sure what we can suggest without more information. Are you seeing this balance consistently reported throughout the program (such as your Summary page, left sidebar, etc)? Does the register in your account appear to have the correct balance, or is that also off? Have you recently done any major changes in your data file, such as deleting an account or category?

The incorrect balance shows up in the Current Balance of the Investment Accounts list of the Summary page. The Investments sidebar also has the wrong balance. The Net Worth includes the wrong balance.

The register total is $0. I found a problem with the sale of a stock. The Register shows SPDR sale of 43,000 shares at 1.68149 and a total sale of $72,304.08. The sale total is correct. However, the actual number of shares sold is 430, the Register value is 43,000. The share price is one percent of the real price ($168.15). The Securities Detail shows the 43,000 shares with other values correct. The Portfolio View is a mess. It lists SPDR shares of –42,570, a cost basis of -9,487,384.83, and a cost per share of 222.87. The Portfolio view also shows four more investments with (small) negative shares. I believe those are dividend reinvestment problems that I can fix.

I looked at the History for SPDR. On the date of the sale, the share price was listed as 1.6815 instead of $168.15. When I went to the Register and corrected the share price and the number of shares, the negative five million was fixed. How can there be a mix of correct and incorrect values (off by a factor of 100) for the same transaction? How can a cost basis be negative nine million?

Sincerely,
Correcting that got rid of negative values.

Unfortunately, I have other problems. (See attached for one example.) All values are correct: I double-checked with the printed statements. (There was a 1:4 split in April 2021, but I'm certain that didn't cause the problem.) As you can see, 1,209 shares were sold for $80,301.23, which is exactly correct. So, how do the security detail results show shares of -401.4? How can the cost basis be negative?

tetrault
