Did you download Moneydance from the preview page (http://infinitekind.com/preview)? The version number you reference is currently the preview (4090). If you downloaded from the main download page, you would have the current stable version (4087). I'm using Linux myself at the moment, and I can confirm that downloading and installing from the preview page does install (4090).

Unlike other application in LINUX, the "install" of MD does not put
things into the "/user? directories. You will need to do a bit of
digging to adjust your run time environment.

I suspect that you have "installed" MD in different directory than the
current running one, and your shortcut that you use (the icon) is
pointing to the previous MD version rather than the current version. To
help you with your problem, please ..

(1) where did you install the new version of Moneydance (or how did you do it). Hint. It might be a new sub diretory off of /home/.../Downloads?)
(2) take a look at the short cut for MD off of your start menu (Desktop is GNOME?). There is a start directory,e tc in the properties.

I guess I am leading to modifying that icon to point to your "new"
install of MD.

BTW, there is a discussion in the archives on modifying the properties
of the shortcut that might be of some help.
