Pop-up windows come up blank

I've been seeing an issue where a pop-up window (e.g. a split, or a reminder) comes up with no contents, just the bare window. Once it happens, it will continue to happen on every pop-up until you quit and restart. One impact is that you also get a bare pop-up during the backup on exit, so you really can't see what's going on until that goes away. Has anyone else seen this? Seems to show up after a few days of working fine. Not a big deal, just a minor annoyance.

    When I did the force quit after I got the blank split-transaction window and restarted, I saw the offer to upgrade to 2023.1 (5006) so I did. I didn't see anything in the bugs fixed description about blank windows but I will let you know how it goes. I really like the Find & Replace extension and I use it all the time so I would hate to not be able to use it again. If this is the problem, are any others having the same blank window prob? BTW, what was your analysis of my latest errlog I posted?

    Please update to md2023.2(5007). There is not much in the console log. But there is one sync issue which 5006/7 might fix and this might impact your issue. I doubt it, but let’s see…..

    I went to "check for updates" and it said I have the latest version of Moneydance 2023.1 (5006). I am using a mac. Is 2023.2 (5007) for Mac?

    5007 is a preview release it is available for macOS.

    Just had a blank window event, on build 5007, after wake. Everything looked OK earlier in the day, but when I cam back later and woke up, main window was blank. Quit normally, log attached.

    After restart, I noticed that Toolbox and CSV Importer have updates available, though I didn't use either. However, Quote Loader ran in the interim, prior to my noticing the blank window. Is it possible that the execution of any extension triggers the blank window problem under certain circumstances, like pending updates? Possibly invocation of certain Java modules?

    I just had a blank window and did a force quit. I am attaching the errlog. I’m using 2023.2 (5007), Find & Replace is v1215. After the force quit, I noticed that Toolbox could be updated so I did, to v1058. I don’t use any other extensions. It sure seems like the Find & Replace is the problem. I emailed that developer last week but have not heard back.

    I think you need to help with diagnosis... When exactly does this occur? What were you doing the second prior? What MD screen were you on when this happened? Did you have F&R extn open? Had you used F&R that session, at all? Do you have the F&R Widget on the Summary Screen? Were you looking at that? Do you use that? etc etc .... Some guidance to help us pinpoint what causes this.. TIA

    I thought the errlog would show those answers and provide details. Is the errlog any help with this prob? Regardless, here are the details. When exactly does this occur? When I am using Find & Replace which I like and use all the time. What were you doing the second prior? I was in a credit card register (the only Moneydance window open so I had not opened the Find & Replace window yet), and looking for a specific transaction so at the top menu, I clicked on EXTENSIONS > Find & Replace. When the Find & Replace window opened, I put in my search criteria and clicked on FIND. In the list that came up (in the Find & Replace window), I double clicked on one of the items in the list which opened a new Moneydance window, a credit card register window, but that window was blank. Do you have the F&R Widget on the Summary Screen? I don't use the Summary Screen and don't use any widgets. Were you looking at that? No. I am fairly certain that this prob is centered around using Find and Replace.

    Just as an aside, I'm finding it interesting that you use F&R in this way. Myself -- and I'm not suggesting that there a right or wrong way to do this -- I use the Summary page as my general landing window, and the default Search box a the upper right covers 99% of my needs. Double-clicking on a result will open a separate window in the appropriate account.

    Obviously, if you're doing bulk replacement, that's another situation, but if it's just a matter of a convenient search of everything, you might find the Summary page useful. Just a thought, YMMV.

    Also, Stuart, FWIW, I have not used F&R but have still seen the problem occasionally. And I don't have the F&R widget on my Summary page. I'll upload another errlog if/when it happens again. Any preference whether I quit with command-Q or Force Quit? Log files would be different, I imagine.

    In the Moneydance settings/preferences, Summary Page, where is the find and replace widget entry shown? In Available, or left or right column?

    I do wish you had explained all the above before.. So, you are confirming that this only ever occurs after you actually open the F&R extension window? yes? And therefore, as such, yes this can only be F&R causing this. I got the impression before that randomly (when you weren't using F&R) the error occurs...

    OK - Does this only occur when you double click on an entry in the results window? And does this always occur then, or only randomly sometimes?

    Is your search criteria always the same or different?

    Do you do anything different when this error occurs? Can you think of any similarities on the data or process when this error occurs?

    How you quit will make no difference.. All the data is in the log.... What I don't know is how you get it to fail, not where it's failing.. If I could reproduce it myself it would be easy.. If you can reproduce it yourself, every time, also easy...?

I'm sorry that I couldn't explain all this before because I was still analyzing the prob. I would try to open various windows that opened blank, ie, going to the top menu and clicking on Tools > Categories (or Accounts or whatever) and not knowing why. Only recently did I realize that the blank windows (like attempting to open Categories, or Accounts, or Edit Accounts, or Reconcile, or whatever) occurred when Find & Replace window had been left open from a previous search. Also when you recommended to delete the F&R extension, I never had blank windows while it was deleted. So yes, I'm now fairly certain that the blank window prob occurs when the F&R window is open. I'm still not sure if I would get a blank window if I used the F&R extension window, then closed it. Your questions:

For example, I’ll have the F&R window open from a previous search for quite sometime, like a couple of days (and forget it’s open because I’m back in a register). Then when I randomly attempt to open a window as I mentioned before (ie, the windows for Categories, Accounts, Edit Accounts, or Reconcile, etc), it opens blank.

    Is your search criteria always the same or different? It’s always different, searching by date, or amount, or category, etc.

    Another crash this morning, woke up blank when I unlocked the Mac today. Looked fine last night. Errlog attached.

    P.S. Blank window that came up after overnight lock (no sleep on M2 Mac) was the Summary window, FWIW. It appears that MD+ was the last operation, before that a periodic run of Quote Loader. Nothing jumped out to my eye.

    It seems that you have some outdated extensions still installed. This may be causing a problem.
    Could you try temporarily removing all the extensions from the extensions folder?
    You should simply navigate to:

    /Users//Library/Containers/Moneydance/fmodules

    In the folder fmodules remove any.mxt files and restart Moneydance!

    Thanks. Interesting detail: the fmodules folder contained 7 extensions, but Extensions Manager shows only 5. The two extras are "invextension.mxt", which I'm guessing was automatically renamed when it became obsolete, and "updater.mxt", which I think is the Security Price Updater, which I no longer use. No idea why it doesn't show up in the Manager, though.

    Anyway, done. Should I reload the ones I still use? Mostly that's just Quote Loader; the others are things I rarely use anyway and could live without, at least for now.

    Follow-up to my last posting. Another wake-up-dead this morning, after deleting all extensions and reloading Quote Loader and Toolbox. Errlog attached.

    I took a quick glance through the log and found a series of exceptions at the end, starting with this:

    Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.ClassCastException: class sun.java2d.opengl.CGLGraphicsConfig cannot be cast to class sun.java2d.metal.MTLGraphicsConfig (sun.java2d.opengl.CGLGraphicsConfig and sun.java2d.metal.MTLGraphicsConfig are in module java.desktop of loader 'bootstrap')

    Looks suspicious to me.

    One more, then I will wait for further info. Another crash this morning; log file shows Quote Load ran at 0959 this morning, and I looked at some things after that with no problem. Next after QL is a Plaid run, then the crash. Log file attached.

    The blank windows problem is clearly from using the extension, "Find and Replace." I haven't used for quite some time with no prob, but as soon as I opened it, the blank screens began, forcing me to quit and restart Moneydance.
    I am using Moneydance for Mac v2023.2 (5007) with Find and Replace v1215 although, none of the previous several upgrades of Moneydance that I did, nor the Find and Replace updates have ever helped the prob.

    My question is: is there another way to get in touch with the Find and Replace developer? In the "Manage Extensions" he says to "Please send feedback to [email blocked]." I have sent 3 emails to that address but no reply. Any other ideas?

    It's not F&R. I don't have it installed, but I'm still getting the problem, possibly from Quote Loader. So it's something that's common to both.

    F&R is now in the IK Open Source repo and as such Sean can fix... So, over to Sean from IK.

    Hmm. I don't have any extensions installed except Find & Replace and Tool box. So yes, the blank window must be a problem that's common to both extensions.

    Emailed him again but I still have no response to the Find & Replace developer.
