From previous posts is seems the only somewhat usable format they now have is CSV. Moneydance can use its internal importer to import the CSV file or you can use the user written CSV importer extension, which has more options, to do the job.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/569155622022-11-27T02:17:17Z2022-11-27T02:17:17ZDiscover Card no longer allows download of transactions

Hi Rava,

For Discover Card, I use the CSV Importer that forum member dwg referenced in his post. It works well. You should give it a try.

If you need help setting it up, let me know and I'll try to lend a hand.

I think I will need your assistance, please. I went to 'Manage Extensions" and added the CSV Importer, but I cannot figure out how it works. When I try to download the CSV file, it opens my Excel. I clicked "Import File", but couldn't figure anything out beyond Import to Account - I was able to find Discover. Thanks so much, and thanks also to forum member dwg.

Within your browser the CSV file extension is associated with Excel

At the Operating system level the CSV file extension is associated with Excel.

Whether it is one or both depends at what point Excel is being started and opening the file.

Kevin is probably our resident expert with CSV files,so I will leave it to him, but the following thread may also give you some ideas.

https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/online-banking/23821...

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/569155622022-11-27T13:08:18Z2022-11-27T13:08:18ZDiscover Card no longer allows download of transactions

Hi Rava,

If you haven't done so already, go ahead and download a CSV file from Discover to your 'Downloads' folder. Leave the CSV file in your 'Downloads' folder - Do not attempt to open it.

I see that you have the CSV Importer installed so go ahead and access it.
(Menu bar > Extensions > Import File)

On the main screen of the CSV Importer click the 'Maintain Custom File Readers' button.

Set up the Custom Reader per my screenshot.

In the 'Reader Name' field, you can name the reader whatever is relevant to you.

Fill out the 'Filename Matcher' field exactly as in the screenshot to have the CSV Importer locate your CSV file from within your 'Downloads' folder.

Pay careful attention to the capitalization and separators of the Date Format.

Select the other fields as shown.

When you've completed the Custom Reader, click 'Save' and 'Done'. This is a one-time set up. You shouldn't need to fuss with this anymore going forward.

(Back at the main screen of the CSV Importer)

Make sure that the proper File Reader is selected (for when you have more than one Custom Reader)

You should then be able to click the 'Find Import File(s) for this Reader' button. ('Find Import File(s) for this Reader' looks for a CSV file in your 'Downloads' folder) If clicking that button does not populate the 'File' field then click the [...] button to navigate to your CSV file.

Make sure that the proper 'Import to Account' option is selected to import the file into.

For the 'Import Transaction As' option, I generally use the 'Online' option. You can experiment with that and see which option serves you best.

Look things over, make sure everything is correct.

Click, the 'Preview Import' button.

A preview window will open. Provided there are no 'red' or 'yellow' flagged transactions listed in the preview, you can go ahead and click the 'Process' button.

The first time that you run the CSV Importer, there may be some informational message that pops up. I forget exactly what it reads but you should look that over. You'll then receive a message indicating the number of imported items as well as other information relevant to the imported transaction(s).

That should do it.

I realize that it looks like a lot of steps to complete this import but in reality, it becomes quite simple once you set up the Custom Reader.

Let me know how it goes and if you have any further questions.

Thank you SO much for your very comprehensive tutorial! I will try it when I get home from church later this afternoon. dwg - thank you also for the link; I will go and read it. I will let you both know how it turns out. Fingers crossed!

I thought I set it up exactly as you described. The File Name Matcher already had some characters as an extension that was different from yours, but I deleted it and put yours in exactly. The date format was different so I changed it to what you had. I was able to change the properties so it opened as a CSV and not an Excel file. "Find Import File" didn't work so I clicked on ... I couldn't find the file there so I typed it into the File Name and clicked Select. It put in C:\Users etc. and the "File Reader" came up Format not recognized. I removed the C:\Users\rava]Downloads and left the Discover-RecentActitvity-20221128, but it still said Format not recognized (No File) and I couldn't change the designation of the File Reader back to Discover. When I click Preview Import it says Error Importing File. I went back to try it again and clicked on ... I clicked on a link that said Discover RecentActivity but got the entire C:\Users\rava\AppData\Roaming\MicrosoftWindows\Recent\Discover-RecentActivity-20221127.Ink That is from a CSV file I tried to download yesterday. I wasn't able to find the one I downloaded today. I clicked Preview Import and didn't get the Error Importing File message, but there was nothing filled in on that screen. At the top it did say "For Reader:Discover Card - Parse file works having 1 rows" But nothing was filled in under Title 1, 2 3, or 4. I clicked on "Open" and received the activity in "Notepad". Sorry for the length of this. Thanks for your help. I will await further instructions.
The first thing that you should do is to download the file again from Discover. When you do so, your browser should automatically download the file to your 'Downloads' folder.
Or...
If when you click the 'Download' button, a file browser opens, make sure that it is set to Save the file into your 'Downloads' folder.

In either case, leave the file in your 'Downloads' folder.

Could you attach a screenshot of the Custom Reader that you created for Discover?

And could you maybe attach a sample of your CSV file? Just make sure that there's no sensitive information in it e.g., account numbers etc.

When you attach files, you must do so from these forums. You cannot use your email client; the files will not post.
