Hi
There is no telephone support for MD. This is a user forum. Having said that there are some really helpful people here who can usually help out. They will usually want to know, amongst other things, what version of MD you are using and on what OS.
Have you set the transaction filter at the top of the register correctly as per below maybe? Also, check transaction sorting options…same article covers this as well. Hope this helps.

I have version 2023.3 (5064) running on a Windows 11 PC. I have the purchased version but, since the upgrade notice a few days ago, somehow it's been converted to a trial version and I cannot enter any more transactions. It says my version is unregistered. I reentered my license number, but it says it is invalid.
I would like to get back up and running. If this continues I will not upgrade and I will move on to another program.
I don't appreciate not having any answers to these problems and questions after repeating them numerous times with no response.

I am not support staff.
When this morning's version came out 2024.1 (5118), my version of MD became unregistered, as well. I looked into the issue, and it was valid, as my last registered version was 2022, which gives me 2022 and 2023 as being registered.
If you bought the licensed version in 2023, then the license key would carry over to this year, but not if you bought an earlier version. My suggestion is to upgrade your license. It really is not that expensive.
As tonyt mentions, it is likely an inadvertent setting of a transaction filter. Check on that first. If truly choose not to upgrade, you can pick up MD 2023,3 (5064) at https://infinitekind.com/download_2023

I was not able to respond above the line indicated in your email, so I
copied my response to you:
Thank you for that prompt response DrgnMastr; I appreciate the help.
My understanding when I bought Moneydance a couple of years ago was that it
was a perpetual license, not necessarily for upgrades, but if one stuck
with the version purchased you could still use it. You say you looked into
it, maybe by emailing Infinitekind (??), but I tried and have had no
response since last Wednesday when this started. In the past they have
responded, but not now. I understand that the upgrade is not expensive,
but if they are no longer responding to questions about problems, then
maybe it's no longer a good investment at any cost.
So, I guess I'd like to know how and what you found out about the
apparently required upgrade, and then if they actually responded to you on
this, because they are not responding to me.
Thank you again,
Joe Wenger

Hello Joe,
I'm afraid I don't see another message from you. Did you send it from a different account or email address?
Upgrades are not required. You can keep using the version that you purchased for as long as you want with your existing license key.
Moneydance 2024 is a free upgrade to anyone who purchased a license key for Moneydance 2023 or later. This is true if you purchased an upgrade or a full license for that version.
If you purchased Moneydance 2023 or later then you can upgrade at no cost by using your existing Moneydance license key with Moneydance 2024. If you purchased a previous version of Moneydance you are entitled to a discounted half-priced upgrade, and if you want to run Moneydance 2024 you will need to purchase an upgrade key. To determine whether you are entitled to a free upgrade or to confirm your license for a discounted upgrade, submit your license key using the Upgrading field on our purchase page at: http://infinitekind.com/purchase
If you would prefer to continue using a previous version of Moneydance for which your current license key is still valid at no additional cost, you can download it from: https://infinitekind.com/previous-versions-of-moneydance
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,
Ethan

Joe,
The license (and upgrades) is the biggest issue of contention and confusion. As Ethan remarked, yes we can use the version the license key applies to, forever. As an example, I paid for 2022 and got 2023 upgrade free with my license. As long as I want to stick with 2023.X my license is valid, forever.
Prior to the release of 2024.1 (5118), the license checker wasn't checking, so most of us did the 2024 upgrade, without thinking. It said it was free, great! 5118 implemented the 2024 license checker, and those of us that last upgraded/paid in 2022 found ourselves with the trial version.
Rather than backpedal to the 2023 version, I chose to get the upgrade so will be good for 2024 and 2025. With MD, it is my personal preference to stay current, but it is a personal choice.
Cheers,
Peter

Thank you so much, Peter, for the clarification--very informative.
I apparently did exactly the same thing as you did with 'free' upgrading
from 2022 to 2023, ergo the situation we're in now. Seems like a bit of
'slight of hand' doing what they did.
I left Quicken years ago when they went to a subscription model. I was
with Q for decades. Prior to that it seemed like they would actually
degrade their update, then 'improve' it in subsequent years. When one is
with them for so long one can see what they were doing. I probably could
have stuck with the very old DOS version if I could still use DOS.
Then I went to Moneyspire. They seemed to ruin various parts of their
software, did not respond to support questions about the problems, then
tried to get customers to buy a new version without addressing the
problems. They also went to a subscription model a few years ago, but
appear to be trying to get previous customers back by offering perpetual
licenses. They say they have improved the software in the areas I
mentioned, stopping short of saying they have solved those problems. There
were a few very flawed parts of the program that made the software totally
unusable.
I just need a very simple checkbook register that offers simple, but good
reports. I don't use these programs for investments or anything else. I
have my own spreadsheets for that. Once I have one that does the simple
things I want to use it for, I'm happy and don't need an upgrade. There
are a few problems with MD that they don't seem to completely address
directly with support emails. Some of the support questions they do answer
helpfully. But this last week of not responding, until Ethan did, had me
worried that I was headed in the same direction as previous software
companies.
Bottom line, since Ethan finally did respond, I will upgrade and give MD
another chance. Hopefully they have fixed the problems I addressed with
them. But, if they start acting like Quicken did (degrading the product,
basically forcing you to upgrade), I will move on.
Thank you, Peter, for your help.
Be good,
Joe

I have to agree. New features added in latest release, problems reported from over the years in reporting, tags, storing memorised reports, customising report register columns, font size, home page appearance, and the list goes on… and on… from many different perspectives I know.
I have said this several times before but will continue to do so….
Rather than a new feature release each year, why not, for once, say no new features this year, let's just get what we have so far…right!!!

Joe,
I am in Canada, and Intuit destroyed Quicken for the Mac over the years, making it unusable for me here. I had started with an excel spreadsheet that I made combining with a database that I wrote, but found Quicken made things a whole lot easier for me and a time saving. When Quicken reached the apparent no point of returned, I tried several other 'bookkeeping' programs and settled on Moneydance. With a bit of data hacking, I brought over my Quicken data successfully into Moneydance. It had required the hacking, as the import functions were unsuccessful.
It is my belief that Infinitekind is a small company, and yes things get missed and they need to be reminded that they have missed them (e.g., Security Price Entry :) ). But, at least they still seem to care about their clients, and in today's computer world that is a biggie in my books.
There is no question, in my mind, that someone needs to go over all of the support discussion to review what has been unresolved, and get it resolved, before moving forward. That is probably IK's weak point. I know from the developing side of the house, it's more fun to create new things, but it is even more important to ensure that the product is completely bug-free. Developers and end-clients often view things differently. When one is too close to the product, it sometimes helps to get someone to review who knows little. :)
Cheers,
Peter

Seconded.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. Check registers are not
brain surgery.
