Moneydance window position

The Moneydance window no longer remembers its position on the screen when you quit the program in the new V2024. It always opens dead center on the screen. Can this be fixed? It's a bit annoying.

   There were changes in window position programming in 2024 due to the persistent issue with users using multiple monitors then moving to a single monitor and wondering "what went wrong".

   I don't know about your situation, but I just tested on my mac with the newest version 2024(5117) [two monitor system] and it remembered the window position.

   I have just a MacBook Pro 15 M2 and I downloaded the latest version this morning and the window opens dead center and still does not remember to stay in the upper left corner where I want it to stay. So it may work with multiple monitors but it’s not working properly with a single monitor.

   All I can say is that for me the position is being remembered on Windows and Linux both notebook systems with no external screens for me.

   Please restart MD, reposition your windows then quit MD. Then grab errlog.txt file from disk and upload this file here.

   I can't reproduce your issue. If I reduce MD to the size of a postage stamp this tiny size & position is remembered after restarting. Restaring shows the MD login screen original size & center however, which is what I would expect.

   This on both an intel iMac & M3 MacBook Air, both running Sonoma 14.4.1 & MD 2024 (5117)

   There’s no such file on my machine. I restarted MD, repositioned the window, quite and then searched my SSD for the file. It came up with nothing.

   Well, I don’t have an answer for you. Every other program I use works normally. This is the only one which doesn’t. And Moneydance 2023 didn’t have this problem. And I’ve never had this problem with any previous version as well.

   Do this.. In MD, Help/Console... At the bottom click (...) then show the console folder... Once your folder opens in Finder/Explorer, keep this folder open and close MD.. Then upload the errlog.txt file here.

    Perhaps this is stopping the save settings...

    I'm wondering if the apostrophe in the file name is a problem?

    Can you try this...
    File/New create a new dataset... adjust your windows... quit... relaunch... are they remembered? Do you get the same error in the log file?

    Also, what happens if you go into Preferences/Backup and manually set the backup location and then try again?

    Came to report that I updated from Moneydance 2023 to 2024 today and the window appears dead center on the screen after restarting - it never remembers. Different from the user upthread, I'm on Windows with a dual monitor setup. Attached errlog.txt but don't see anything noteworthy. Funny, I saw the release note about window placement and mused that I'd never had a problem with that before.

    @ryan. Please follow the same steps in post 9 above, and then after MD is closed, upload the errlog.txt file. Thanks.

    (Yes we need the file after MD is closed, not when it’s open as you have sent)

    Sorry about that - the three dots on the console window don't exist on Windows so I went about finding the file and missed that part of the instruction.

    I simply use a MacBook Pro M2 Max w/Sonoma 14.4.1 & 32 GM Memory. Nothing else is attached to it. The screen is the MacBook Pro screen. It is not set up for any multi monitors. (And never has, even with my old MacBook Pros or my old Office iMac)

    I normally have two monitors but I unplugged the secondary to test and it behaved the same whether single or dual monitor. Ignored previous window position, opened in the center of the primary display.

    I reported this yesterday (4/19/24) along with another issue. Almost forever, and through 2023.3 when Moneydance opened, my position for the window was top left, and a specific size, both on my Intel 2014 Mac mini, and my 2020 M! MacBook Pro, both running Monterey 12.7.4. Moneydance version 2024 (and all subsequent release versions) have this error, window opens center screen. Not what I want.

    Another issue is that 2024 was released without any way to remove items from the side bar. Right click and control click no longer work.

    The "will not accept valid license" issue was introduced in 2024 (5118).

    Not staff, just a user.

    Same problem on Kubuntu Linux.

    Also, the popup that appears when the focus moves into the Category field is in the wrong place.

    Has this opening window being centered on the screen rather than remembering its location been solved for anyone in this post. I've been working with the support folks on two issues, one the developer has a fix for in the works, the other is this window issue.

    I'm asking because I was told today that 2024.1 solved the window issue for most folks. I don't believe that to be the case, so I'm following up. Thanks.

    I would suggest there are possibly two issues with the same type of result. Perhaps related perhaps not.

    The solution that has been put in place appears to have resolved what was causing the issue for folks that had a problem initially, which seems to have been a multi monitor issue. Code had been added to address problems when people disconnected a second monitor, especially, and the software remembered off screen locations, hence why the problem you are now seeing may or may not be related.
