Errors Generating Reports in the Latest Moneydance Version 2024.1 (build 5118)
When creating a report using the Transaction Filter, both the Description and Memo categories no longer work to filter the transactions. Instead, the result is "Nothing to Report". Memorized reports that were previously saved in Version 2023 now show "Nothing to Report". I checked on another computer that I hadn't yet upgraded to the latest version of Moneydance, and I was still able to generate a report using Moneydance 2023. Both computers are synced to the same data using DropBox Connection.
How do I fix this?

Hmm.. I am surprised that you get nothing... I just tested and do get results.. Can you edit the report and send a Screenshot of the settings..? Also:

I'm working on some improvements related to the transaction filter report now. As Stuart mentioned, seeing a screenshot of the settings screens might reveal the cause, and I can fix any confusion there.
For instructions on how to take a screenshot, try this link: https://www.take-a-screenshot.org/
Thanks!

Thanks for your help.
Here are the screenshots:
1. Initial Report Generated

2. The above report was generated using these criteria:

3. When I click on Memos, then add the search term “Icicles” (See screenshot below), I get “Nothing to Report”

To make sure that it wasn't a typo issue, I changed the search criteria to “Icicle” (not plural) (see screenshot below), but I still get “Nothing to Report”.
Other than the Memo criteria, nothing else was changed.

Thanks again.

Yes.. Silly tender app that runs this forum allows one to add multiple attachments but then only has one uploaded for each message.

So I see one report setup for "this year", on category "For Dad" and with the memo "Icicles".
The second report setup is the same but without the restriction on the memo field and should be all "this year" "for Dad"

Sorry -
I am sending the screenshots again - each in a separate email. Since I am not sure which one was received, I am sending all three again.
1. This is the report that I created:

2. The report created (previously sent) used these criteria:

10 Posted by nagee on 27 Apr, 2024 09:14 PM
3. I changed the criteria by checking the Memo box with the criteria “Icicles” - result: “Nothing to Report”

4. To make sure that the problem wasn’t due to a typo, I changed the Memo criteria to “Icicle” (not plural) - result still says “Nothing to Report”

@Sean, MD2024 is not doing partial word matches in Memo field? I can verify that it works in MD2023 as the OP said. There is also a note that the "Description" field is not matching as well.

Previously working reports on the "Memo" field are also not working for me now on the latest version (which I just paid for, so that kinda bugs).
It *DOES* work if you use a single character. For example, if I include a single "W" in the criteria for Memo, I will get a report of all transactions that have a "W" anywhere in the memo column. It fails to return any values if you add a second character. So it looks like they initialized a search, but just didn't loop through for more than one character.
Unfortunately, searching for a "W" in the memo field is hardly useful.

"Unfortunately, searching for a "W" in the memo field is hardly useful." :-) That is true. Seems like a serious bug in 2024. I hope Sean has time to look at it more closely.

Any update on this?

In the Alpha stream we are currently at build 5120, so not far past the latest stable build, we have not seen any changes as yet to the Transaction Filter report.

I just upgraded to the latest version 5141 and Memo filter still doesn't work.

Can you create a test dataset with some data in it and share that. Then we can run the same reports as you to understand why they are not working for you?

Here is a dummy account that I created:

When I use Transaction Filter, check “Memo", then add “ABC” (without quotation marks), I get “There’s Nothing to Report!”

Ive had exactly the same issues and have had to ditch a suite of reports as the Memo field will not recognise the word DIVIDEND or any part of it! It will notice other words but its hit and miss. I have noticed that the words it doesnt like are those that also appear elswhere in the dataset for that transaction line.
24 Posted by Stuart Beesley ... on 10 Aug, 2024 09:52 AM
@nagee - you're right... It just doesn't work... I've reported it onwards.....
@michael... can you provide a test dataset where transaction filter will find one word in Memo, but not another word in Memo... This I don't understand at all.. If it finds one, it will (should) find the other..
25 Posted by Stuart Beesley ... on 10 Aug, 2024 12:33 PM
@nagee - OK, this has now been fixed and the code should appear in preview/alpha 5144. I just tested it and it now returns your 'abc's...
26 Posted by Stuart Beesley ... on 19 Aug, 2024 09:08 AM
FYI. In PREVIEW 5145 there is now an option to the right of the description field to tick and enable the search to also search the memo field(s). Ie it will search both description and memo field(s) in one filter (rather than two separate filters). This should avoid confusion on which field to filter and will allow better use or and/or criteria.
(Note: I haven’t personally tested this yet)

I just downloaded Preview 5146, and the memo search problem now appears to have been fixed. I will keep using it and see how it goes. Yay! Thank you!
