Money Dance refuses to install on my latest model Microsoft Surface Pro X - This device is 64 bit, runs Ms-Office (Full versions) and has 16GB RAM but because it doesn't have an Intel Processor Money Dance will not install.
Yet there is a sync (drop box) version for Android and iPad/iPhone??

Do you plan to alter Money Dance or bring out a FULL desktop version compatible with Surface Pro devices?

    I'm a fellow User.

The desktop version of Moneydance is written in the Java programming language. Unless and until there is a version of Java for the ARM processor that is in the Surface Pro X Moneydance 2019 cannot be compiled to run on the platform. So the Moneydance developer is constrained by Java availability.

The appeal of using Java is that from a single code base you can compile versions that run on various platforms, it significantly reduces costs, the resources required and expands the platforms that can be supported. Without Java I doubt if Moneydance would be available on the 3 desktop platforms it is.

The Apps for Android and IOS devices are not written in Java, but are also not a full version of the software they are helper applications designed for on the go data entry.

    Hi Lauryn,

As dwg mentioned, the ARM processor is the limiting factor on our end. There is work being done to have an ARM-compatible java VM for windows (there is already one for linux) and as soon as there is we'll certainly be releasing Moneydance for it. I think the Surface Pro is a great machine and I'd love to have Moneydance be a first-class citizen on it!

    Thanks,
    Sean

I would like to add that we're very close to having an x86 version of Moneydance which should run in emulation mode on the ARM Surface Pro X.

And before too long I'm confident that we'll have a full ARM-native version as well.

    Thanks,
    Sean

    Thanks, that’s good to know.

I’ve heard a rumour that Apple now own the Arm processor company?

The talk is that Apple is designing its own ARM processor for its Macs that it will have its chip manufacturing partner TSMC manufacture. It uses ARM type processors in iPhones and the like.
