Two questions that could become suggestions: menu bar app and Zapier
1) Does Moneydance have any sort of menu bar app / extension where I can add a transaction without opening Moneydance?
2) Does Moneydance integrate in any way with Zapier? Or, have an API that Zapier can talk to?

I'm a fellow user.
This is my take.
1. No, Moneydance data is encrypted, so it has to be opened to de-encrypt it..
2. Moneydance does have an API, it is designed to be used with extensions developed in Java that are installed into Moneydance, see:
