<p>Thanks for the suggestion, I appreciate you for the thoughtful
input. Have you considered creating a temporary pass through
account. Import the transactions into that and then right click
"Batch Change"->Account to move the transactions once you are
happy they have imported correctly. Use shift select to select
multiple transactions at a time for batch change.</p>
<p>Sincerely</p>

<p>Thanks for the suggestion; that didn't occur to me. I'll try
it.</p></div>Gandalf99tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/2752332009-07-30T19:52:52Z2009-07-30T19:52:52ZText File Importer Modification<div><p>Ben-</p>
<p>I'm doing this now. But it brings up a couple more
glitches/requests/bugs:</p>
<ol>
<li>
<p>Because there is no confirmation screen, I accidentally imported
my transactions into the real account. User error of course, but it
would be nice to have a confirmation screen.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>The text importer has a field for separator, but not delimiter.
The standard csv file is delimited by commas but each field is
enclosed in quotes. Therefore all my data shows up with quotes
around it unless I process them out in a spread sheet file.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>I have about 200 transactions for which I'm having to manually
enter categories because they're in the register without going
through the matching process of the online screen or the "new
transaction" screen. So I'd still love to see a way to import a csv
file akin to import of a qif or ofx file.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>There's a bug that I'm noticing. I'm not sure if it's only
w/text importer, but that's what I'm using a lot right now. When I
come back to an account screen from a dialog box (not sure if the
names are what you use, but hopefully you get my drift), the menu
bar is missing everything except the "Moneydance" menu (i"m on a
Mac). If I then click an icon or do something else, the menu
returns.</p>
</li>

<p>I have created a couple of tickets in our issue tracking system
based on your suggestions.</p>
<p><a href=
"http://moneydance.com/trac/ticket/2038">http://moneydance.com/trac/ticket/2038</a></p>
<p>With regards to your second point it is my understanding the
words delimiter and separator are used interchangeably with regards
to a csv file and they they both refer to the same thing, i.e. the
comma or the tab etc... The quotes are something different, they
are used around fields that contain reserved characters and It is
my belief that a correct implementation of csv should always remove
the quotes.</p>
<p><a href=
"http://moneydance.com/trac/ticket/2039">http://moneydance.com/trac/ticket/2039</a></p>
<p>If you register and log into trac you can vote on tickets. The
more votest a ticket gets the more likely it will be
implemented.</p>
<p>The disappearing menu bug you are experiencing is a bug in
apples current release of java. They introduced it to all of their
java versions with their last update. I understand they are aware
of the issue and I hope they fix it soon. I am sorry for the
inconvenience.</p>
<p>Sincerely</p>
