simplify / explain upgrade / purchase terms.
Hi
There seem to be so many problems with this. Maybe the answer is to have a screen on Paddle whereby the purchaser identifies as 'I AM A NEW PURCHASER" or 'I ALREADY OWN A VERSION OF MONEYDANCE'. The version I have is … key no:….
Unless this completed the buyer can proceed no further.
After that step the buyer would be given the opportunity to buy a full price version if a new customer or upgrade at a reduced price. paddle would have worked out from the key if an upgrade was legal.

Rather, COULD Paddle work out if a key was valid?

I would not think so Tony.
I think what happens is that TIK validates your license and then passes the price to Paddle to charge.

Shame, cos something needs to be done to stop all these user errors IMHO. I know all the info is there to do it correctly, but not all folk seem to read things through before proceeding, then end up in a right muddle.
Maybe if it is TIK who do the validating, the catch all form should be on their side before things get passed to Paddle?
Just my thoughts on this!

Most problems occur with users just downloading and installing any new version they see or the notifier tells them about, irrespective of it is says it is paid for or free, yes there was a problem with the first 2024 build with incorrect information on what would be a free upgrade, but that was only around for about 4 days and it seems to me the number of problems is not explained by that 4 day window.

I agree, but it don't happen with any other 3rd party software I use. There is obviously a problem with upgrading or new purchase options. The ones I use all seem to have a built in check system somehow so as to notify upgraders what the policy and cost is. As far as I can see there is no such failsafe in the MD upgrade / purchase route….
Unless you do your reading first!
Maybe I am wrong and will stand corrected…

Based on the number of posts that continue to be posted to the "Problems" section here regarding the Moneydance update, I would think someone would be tasked with seeing how the "notification" of an update to Moneydance could be changed to avoid this confusion in the future. Just my two cents, but it's pretty apparent that whatever notification that is in place now, is not working.
