I am thinking about moving from Quicken due to the costly yearly subscription price. I see to purchase your software it is 49.99. Is this a one time charge? Do you charge yearly to get updates? Also, if I go with this software is any of my data on the cloud?

A purchase of Moneydance allows you to use the version you purchased indefinitely. You can typically upgrade to the next major release for free, and beyond that can purchase a half-priced upgrade key. However, you do not have to upgrade if your current version is meeting your needs. We do not deactivate parts of the program to force people to upgrade like Quicken does, nor have we built in the ability for us to do so.

For non-business use, our licensing policy allows you to install the version of Moneydance you have purchased on as many computers as you need in your household, regardless of operating system. Simply use the same license key you are given for your initial purchase on your other household computers.

Please note that this licensing policy only applies to purchases of Moneydance made directly from our website. Other third-party sites, such as the Mac App Store or, typically have much more restrictive licensing policies than ours, and you will be bound by the one from whatever site you purchase Moneydance.

All of your data is stored locally on an encrypted data file. You can also enable syncing between other computers and our mobile app, which also passes data between systems encrypted. However, you do not have to use these functions. Your data is not on the 'cloud' unless you put your data file there. We don't have access to your financial data, nor do we want the responsibility for securely storing it on some remote server.

I encourage you to download our free trial version from and experiment with the program before you decide if you would like to purchase it. The demo version is fully functional and allows you to manually enter 100 transactions. Imported transactions are not limited, so you'll be able to fully test things like importing from other programs and connections with your bank. If you decide to purchase the program at a later date (from you can keep all your data, the license key simply unlocks the ability to manually enter more transactions.

In case you haven't found it yet, detailed information on how to use the program can be found at
