I'm curious where you read that information? As long as you can export your data from Quicken into the QIF format, you should be able to import your data into Moneydance. Instructions can be found at: https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/importing-data-from-other-pro...

I encourage you to download our free trial version from http://infinitekind.com/downloads and experiment with the program before you decide if you would like to purchase it. The demo version is fully functional and allows you to manually enter 100 transactions. Imported transactions are not limited, so you'll be able to fully test things like importing from other programs and connections with your bank. If you decide to purchase the program at a later date (from http://infinitekind.com/purchase) you can keep all your data, the license key simply unlocks the ability to manually enter more transactions.

In case you haven't found it yet, detailed information on how to use the program can be found at https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb

I've always backed up to a flash drive after every download and have 10 years of Quicken transactions on the current one that I had no trouble importing into MoneyDance. I'm pretty sure that if you save (or "export") your Quicken data to a flash drive as a QIF file (Quicken provides that option), you'll be able to import it into MD with no problem.

Fwiw, I have not deleted Quicken from my computer...we no longer have internet access, but we can continue to view it, even to enter transactions, which can come in handy.

I think you'll like it here...there's a bit of a learning curve, but it's not a steep one, and the support from staff and other more experienced users is amazing.

That said Quicken 2017 does not support export in QIF format, only QMTF, QXF or CSV.

Unfortunately simply exporting a QIF from Citibank yields a null pointer exception in Moneydance when importing the file, independent of the number of transactions in the file, using the current demo file downloaded today.

Scotttag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/482967092020-05-09T15:53:19Z2020-05-09T15:53:19ZQuicken 2017 Import

For information on the QMTF format, you may want to try the information at: https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/importing-data-from-other-pro...

In terms of the QIF from your bank, that sounds like a misformatted file. Was there more detail to the error message?

There was an error importing the file 'CHK_8114_CURRENT_VIEW-3.qif': java.lang.NullPointerException

Is there a log file I can provide?

Scotttag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/482967092020-05-09T16:06:39Z2020-05-09T16:06:40ZQuicken 2017 Import

Using your recommendation with respect to the QMTF file, I was able to import the Quicken 2017 database. There are a few artifacts that need to be cleaned up, but it appears the data is in Moneydance.

It's interesting that once the accounts were created in Moneydance, importing the Citibank QIF completed successfully. I need to find your help page on setting up downloads to see if this process can be automated.

Scotttag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/482967092020-05-09T16:43:57Z2020-05-09T16:43:57ZQuicken 2017 Import

It does, Scott...I used it. If you look under the File menu, it's the
first choice under "file export." I "exported" (backed up) to a flash
drive using it, imported 'em into MD from flash drive.

It could very well be that the option was removed in an update prior to termination of service...

Scotttag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/482967092020-05-09T17:20:39Z2020-05-09T17:20:39ZQuicken 2017 Import

I'm glad to hear the import from Quicken worked! I'm honestly not sure why that would affect the success of importing a QIF from your bank. But if it's working now, maybe we should just be happy with that, and only deal with the problem if it reemerges.

If you're asking about setting up direct connections with a compatible bank, please see: https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/online-banking-and-bill-pay/d...

If you mean automating the QIF download process, there's currently no way to automate it more than what it sounds like you're already doing, although we are looking into a way to have the program do some of those steps for you in a future release.

We've also found that people report differences in the options on the same operating systems within the same Quicken program years. So that's just to say that it's possible you both may be right. It's all very confusing, especially compared to Moneydance, which is almost exactly the same on any operating system.

So far I was able to import my full Quicken 2017 database into Moneydance and sync with my credit card.
I moved to Moneydance back in 2016 and have never looked back.
I am running on Windows 10, Linux Mint 19.3 and Ubuntu 20.04 and for all intense and purposes they are identical in operation and features. I sync my data between these systems as well as to my two Android phones.
As far as I can tell Moneydance on Mac is the same except that the menu FILE is called Moneydance on Mac, otherwise operation and features are identical.

Moneydance for computers all run on Java.

That's great, but note "different years are different, different systems are different" - if staying one more year involves changing your version, note very carefully if you can still export your data to a file that can be imported into Moneydance, so observe that issue as you move forward.

There are some versions that have removed QIF/QXTF exporting.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/482967092020-05-11T13:06:39Z2020-05-11T13:06:39ZQuicken 2017 Import

Thanks for that Dantdavis. I did the renewal, tossing away $38 in the process and don't feel good about it. It appears you are right about versions. After the update, my version doesn't show a year at all, part of the BS mandatory subscription process.

That said, I'd be concerned about what Scott said above, that his major bank doesn't link with MoneyDance which right there would defeat part of my reason to switch. Do all the major brokerage houses link well with MoneyDance? It's really unfortunate that I used to pay $30 every 2 years to update Quicken and now they're forcing me to update every year for $38 at best so downloads are allowed. I used to love this software and now I just resent it.

Brucetag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/482967092020-05-11T15:48:21Z2020-05-11T15:48:22ZQuicken 2017 Import

There is a current thread about Citibank / Moneydance issues, as well as an older thread from last year. Thus it appears there have been ongoing issues for some time with Citibank.

I'm still torn but my time is worth more than the cost of paying for Quicken hence I'm likely to just drop the money with Quicken in the hopes that Moneydance somehow gets Citibank working. But honestly it's not clear that this matter is getting serious attention.

Scotttag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/482967092020-05-11T21:27:08Z2020-05-11T21:33:17ZQuicken 2017 Import

Just a user

I have credit cards from Chase, USAA, Citi, Barclay, and some store cards.

The issue is primarily "does the institution support Direct Connect". Quicken's Web Connect is proprietary - AND not private - as they basically connect themselves. MD is much more into privacy, so Direct Connect is the way to go for them.

You can probably go to each account in quicken and see how they connect - if Direct Connect, you'll (probably) be cool, though some places don't allow "new" direct connects. (Record all your direct connect passwords!)

There have been some issues lately - Discover, Citibank, a couple others. I think it is getting serious attention - but since the BANKS make the change MD has to react, figure out what the bank changed, and adjust. There is even some thought about banks making specific deals with quicken to make quicken exclusive - and then others say that's illegal collusion. (And if true, you are definitely the target - trying to make it so you WON'T leave, because they become the only game in town).

However, there is a lot of work being done (and some already done) to make the manual downloads pretty easy. I have QIF and OFX set up to default to "open in moneydance", so that makes the download easy for me. Also, I think there is an extension that allows you to drop manual downloads into a folder, and then import them at will. Sure, not as good as automatic, but not too bad.

I have about 50 accounts - credit cards, checking, savings, investment etc - of those I think 44 automatically download. Your mileage may vary.

dtd
