Hi Paul

Is there a data import function that will allow my Banktivity 8 data to be imported and what Banktivity 8 data will not be imported?
Provided Banktivity can export your data as a QIF file the Moneydance can read that file. Moneydance can only import things that are in the QIF. QIF does not support things like reminders.

Are share trading accounts supported?
Moneydance has Investment Accounts where you can set up Securities and track prices of investment portfolios.

Are there user defined expenses category codes to analysis income and expenses
Moneydance come with a standard set of categories, you can add your own and provided Banktivity includes them in its QIF file they will be added. Reports can filter by categories.

How many ‘levels’ of income/expenses category codes are supported?
There is not a limit.

Is there an equivalent function to the Banktivity ‘Tag’ function to allow a further level of income/expense analysis?
Yes, its call tags.

Is there a ‘find and replace function’ (such as find a payee and replace it with other text) and if yes, what data fields can be used in the function?
Yes there is a find and replace which covers most fields.

If an income/expenses category code is deleted how are transactions using that category code handled?
If you try to delete a used category you are warned that to proceed will delete associated transaction. Not a good thing to do. You can use Batch Change to ensure transactions use another category before you delete.

Is there a memo field on all transactions?
Yes

Does the application run on a desktop iMac?
Moneydance runs on Mac, Windows and Linux, look the same and use and interchangeable data set.

Where does my data reside and can it be easily copied/backed up?
Your data set resides on your hard drive as does the program. Moneydance provides two backups methods. Manual and Auto. Auto, last backup of the day, you can set a number of daily backups that are stored. You can set the backup location to say a cloud server in case your hard drive fails.

What is the pricing structure - one-off cost, annual cost, monthly cost, subscription model etc.
Basically, a one off cost, see below.

Is there a trial version I can use to determine if the application suits my needs?
Yes.

The downloaded version of Moneydance is a full working version with the only limit being a maximum of 100 manually entered transactions, with no time limit. Imported files from other financial programs and your bank have no limit on imports, provided that you do not confirm them. If you decided to purchase you are sent a key by email that unlocks the 100-manual transaction limit. If after testing with this free trial version you purchase and change your mind see the 90 day money back guaranty at https://infinitekind.com/refunds
For the future Moneydance never sunsets the version it releases. So, you don’t have to upgrade. If you won’t to upgrade the next version is free (say 2017 to 2019) and from then on you get a 50% discount. All upgrades within a version are free.

Make sure you are running this build of Moneydance https://infinitekind.com/preview

Hope this helps

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/490557432021-02-25T08:43:44Z2021-02-25T08:43:45ZSome questions

Thank you so much for your detailed reply.

I tried the download link in your email (https://infinitekind.com/preview)
but the webpage advised it was a beta version ... is there a final
production version I can use for testing please?

Yes it says a beta/preview build, but at the stage Moneydance is at these versions are more akin to bug fix releases in the main. Unfortunately Moneydance does not make a distinction between true beta releases and what would be considered to be a bug fixed version.

Derek would have pointed you at this release as there are a few known problems with the current stable release that were found after shipping that you may well run into.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/490557432021-02-26T08:18:11Z2021-02-26T08:18:11ZSome questions

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi Paul

Dwg is correct. This is especially true if your Mac is running Big Sur.
That release build does not run well on Big Sur, hence the link to the preview build.

Hope this helps

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/490557432021-02-26T08:22:46Z2021-02-26T08:22:46ZSome questions

Thank you for your help and apologies for my mistake in thinking you were
support staff.

Not comfortable with some of the reviews especially problems with running
on Big Sur so will give this app a miss.

Thanks again
Take care

Paul Byatttag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/490557432021-02-26T09:13:10Z2021-02-26T09:13:10ZSome questions

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi Paul

I would not give up that easily.
Moneydance has loads of happy Mac Big Sur users.
It does not cost you anything to download the preview build of Moneydance and try it out for yourself.

Hope this helps

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/490557432021-03-11T13:59:37Z2021-03-16T23:32:52ZSome questions

Are there any known plans to have it running as a stable release on Big Sur?
Thanks

ade123atag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/490557432021-03-11T14:13:22Z2021-03-11T14:13:22ZSome questions

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi ade123

It will happen, but they never give dates in advance.
Just use the Preview build for now from https://infinitekind.com/preview

Hope this helps.

derekkent23
