If Moneydance imports category information it normally imports cleared status as well, that of course is if the file actually has that information in it (assuming QIF imports from another finance program).

A different between the balance in Moneydance and what the account has is very common, it usually mean there is no initial balance in the transferred data. Moneydance allows for this by have a field in the account info data where you can enter the balance. If your records go back far enough you can usually find this amount

I think you will need to take a pragmatic approach. I would look at the Moneydance data and compare it to the bank data, and try to find a point where the balances agree (after entering the initial balance). If a point can be found I would assume all data before that point is correct and mark them as reconciled.

To select a block of transactions click on the first scroll to the last and hold down the shift key while clicking on it, you can then right click and select to mark as reconciled.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/493109692021-07-30T17:57:58Z2021-07-30T17:57:59ZImported a Ton of Data to MoneyDance, But Old Transactions Not Marked as Reconciled

I don't think I've ever changed programs without having the balance out of whack initially, so that part isn't surprising. And I don't care too much about fixing that problem with the generic "balance adjustment" entry to make the programs match.

The tricky part is reconciling the future statements after that. And it seems that my statements never match my program-data exactly because there are always transactions at the end of the month that, in the program, are part of that month, but don't appear on the statement until the following month. But generally, I think you're right about the approach I need to take: bulk-reconcile all of the transactions up to a certain point (eg, when I switched to MD), then reconcile month-by-month from that date forward.

jrm
