Importing from Quicken 2008

Incredibly, I've acquired all the patches to reinstall and get Quicken 2008 running on new computers and drives.

But, I'd like to get a fresh start and get rid of a lot of stuff I no longer need, especially incorrect categories, and was hoping for a fresh look and more functionality.

It looks like I can't import the backup and have to "export" and then import each one of the about 24 accounts individually. Is there an easier way to accomplish that?

Thanks!

No other program can read Quicken or Quicken backup files.

Many versions of Quicken have the ability to export all accounts into a single QIF file, you should use that option if available. If you can only do one account at a time that is a Quicken restriction.

Thanks, dwg. Guess I have to do one account at a time :(

Also, as my first import was screwed up, I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling to get rid of it.

EDIT: I found how to set a new backup directory, but not the data dir.

Very few users would back up the default dirs and it would leave them with NO banking data whatsoever after a drive failure. I wasn't asked where to put my data during install and suggest adding the option to create data and backup directories during installation to prevent data loss.

How do I set data directory?

    Thanks!

OUCH! How do I get rid of these incorrectly imported accounts?

Uninstalling and reinstalling did NOT work, still shows me with a million bucks, which I assure you, if I had that kind of money I would not struggle with this :)

    Hi Christine - I'm a fellow user.

I think, rather than uninstalling and re-installing, you may have preferred to try File | New | New Account File if I'm understanding what you wanted to achieve.

As for backups, that folder can be set under File | Preferences | Backups.

Thanks, just edited my previous comment, found the backup dir option.

And, YES, new file did the trick, thank you!

Does anyone know how to get rid of the old file and change that dir too?

The following Knowledge Base article describes the process to delete unwanted data sets:

    SUCCESS!

In case anyone else is still using OLD Quicken:

After multiple failures I realized that Quicken 2008 does have the option to export ALL accounts, you just can't select multiple accounts.

And I forgot to set the import decimal to period a few times, that's why I was so rich.

    Thanks again for the help.

With Quicken it was always either all or just one, no middle ground.

Generally we find that people who try to do just selected accounts. end up with incomplete data as there is almost always transfers between accounts.
