Transfer fees
I see that this is a one time charge for the program, which is what I am looking for. BUT, when I go to download my transactions, it says I need to pay a monthly $5 fee to have this service. Is that correct? That would be an additional $60 a year.

You can buy the current version of the program for a one time cost of $50. If you want to use Moneydance+ to download transactions it costs $2 per month for this service, this is because a third part provides this service and that is their charge.
If your bank, on the other hand, supports Direct Connect you can use that for no additional cost.
If you download and import transaction files from your bank there is no additional cost for doing that either.
The $5 per month is if you want to download using Moneydance+ but do not want to buy Moneydance itself outright.
