Moving transactions from one account to another?

Question 1.a: As noted in this thread I have all of the securities buy/sell transactions from a brokerage account in an "Imported Investment Account" that Moneydance created by importing from a multi-account .qif when the application was first opened. The other bank-like transactions are in the named brokerage account. How can I transfer everything from the "Imported..." account to the named brokerage account?

Question 1.b: My whole reason for switching to Moneydance from another application is because I'm planning to transfer some or all of my brokerage account assets from the two existing brokerages to a another one at which I'll be opening an account. (Details -- of why this motivated the switch -- on request.) In case you're not familiar with the process, it's pretty easy to tell a broker to transfer some or all assets from another broker. There's an industry standard for communicating such requests between brokers. So when I do this, and an inter-broker transfer is effected, what do I do in Moneydance? All three accounts will be online-connected, so will downloading all accounts handle this automatically, or will I have to manually transfer the assets? I will want not only to end up with the assets in the right Moneydance account, but also have the cost bases and holding period length of the securities go along as they transfer.

I'll at least make a start on your questions

1a. Go to the menu option Extensions --> Manage Extensions and install the Toolbox extension

Moving Investment transactions is far more complex than many think, but the Toolbox extension include the Move Investment Transactions extensions which does a lot of testing to make sure only valid moves occur.

2b I would not expect all the individual buy and sell transactions to be retransmitted and whether any sort of "transfer" transaction would come through I have no idea. So I am thinking that what would need to happen on the Moneydance side depends to a degree what happens with the brokers, it may be that the account has to be disconnected from one broker and connected to the other or .....

After installing Toolbox I discovered that Imported Investment Account has transactions, both security buys/sells and bank-register type transactions, from more than one source account.

This dumps a bottle of flies into the ointment.

sounds like whatever generated your qif file didn't do a very good job.

Toolbox move selected transactions will allow you to select txns and move just those.

    Stuart,
I realize that, but there are 3,877 transactions in the Imported Investment Account Register, that should be moved to various other accounts. Selecting and moving them to their proper accounts would be quite a job.

OK, but the tools also has filters that might get the bulk moved in 2 or three runs?

I edited the .qif and that got rid of the Imported Investments Account, so I won't need the Toolbox, at least for now. Glad to know that it's available, though, in case I run into misplaced transactions elsewhere.

In case of interest to anyone, my changes to the .qif:

Removed redundant !Type:Invst lines, i.e., those where the previous !Type:, within an !Account section, was also a !Type:Invst.
    Removed !InvstBnk lines.
