say you cannot split a transaction that is already the other side
of a split. e.g. if you enter a transaction in bank accountA and
split it such that it transfers to bank account B and bank account
C, you cannot then go into bank account B and split the
automatically created balancing entry there.

sub-splitting items could get very messy. I see that my description
of my problem with imported data was not complete. I'm dealing with
imported data covering more than 18 years and some of it didn't
import as cleanly as I might have wished. I'm sure that the old
adage "Garbage in. Garbage out." might apply.

In one case where I cannot split an item is a checking account
with a check to a grocery store. At the store, we purchased
groceries, cleaning supplies, and got cash. Two items are listed
categories and the cash account is listed as a "bank". This edited
check does not seem to be able to be split.

The second case, in a different checking account is a deposit of
a paycheck. A pay check would have the base pay, perhaps some
overtime, deductions made for various tax withholding, and
automatic insurance payments. Again, these would be into existing
categories. I am unable to edit this entry to split this deposit
into its required parts.

Thank you again for responding to my question. I am looking
forward to working with a more up-to-date financial program.
split.

wildly off which is why each account needs to be checked and so
many entries need to be properly edited. In this shot, the
categories are way down on the list but at the top is missing the
"Split" button.

buckyjuniortag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/402238462016-06-30T01:17:02Z2016-06-30T01:17:02ZAbility to split transactions missing in imported bank account

Could you show me a screenshot the transaction while it is not

same one you show in your first. The amount of the transaction in
the second is 469.19, where as the transaction you showed me in the
first is -4320.56.

debit column. While editing it as income with the correct amount in
the deposit column as 4320.56. Since I could not split the deposit,
canceling the editing reverted to the original debit amount. Even
trying to split it as a debit is unavailable.

I have discovered in the second account that I can completely
re-enter the transaction and it can be split. Not exactly what I am
hoping to do with all of my imported data.

Thanks for anything you can do to help make my future editing
easier.

buckyjunior
