Goodbye Quicken ... and good riddance

Like many others, I wasn't happy with Quicken for many years ... changing/eliminating features, adding bugs, poor support, etc. ... and then finally the move to subscription-only software. I often thought about switching to something else - but it was easier to stick with the status quo. But when my legitimately-purchased copy of Quicken 2017 (the last non-subscription rev) wouldn't load on a new laptop (and with Quicken no longer supporting it), I knew I had to bite the bullet. I found Moneydance - and with the free trial period, I figured I had nothing to lose.

And I'm glad I did.

It was neither quick nor seamless. I started slowly moving over to Moneydance in the end of 2022. I purchased my copy at the end of the trial (early 2023). And I just finished. Checking, saving, credit card, 401K, brokerage, IRA accounts - plus recurring paychecks, etc. - for me and the wife. Some of it went off without a hitch; some not so much. But I finally got there.

Was it worth the effort? Damn straight. And I wouldn't go back to Quicken if they gave it to me for free.

A good many of us have gone through the same process, it certainly is not pretty and it is a lot of work, more for some than others.

    Well done and welcome.

I made the switch earlier last year and I found it easy to bring my 20+ years of data over to Moneydance. My Quicken membership just expired this week, I had been running Quicken and MD side by side for the last 6-8 months just to make sure MD did what I needed. And it does! There is a small learning curve, but I got the hang of it quickly and glad I switched.
