Hi,
I am in a migrating process from PC to Mac and looking for a software to manage my personal finance.
I have some questions and hope you can answer positively.
1) The main point is that I am French and leave in France. Is MoneyDance compatible with French law? I think about some local investment accounts like PEA, Assurance vie.
2) Do you have some migration tools and a description them?

Thanks for your help,

Moneydance follows accounting principles, Whether it complies with local laws is more about how you post transaction and organise the data. The software is not familiar with any specific country laws.

Migrating from any other program is really a case of exporting the transactions from the other software, best format to use is QIF, CSV can work for non-investment accounts and importing that data. All formats in the personal finance space are proprietary and that are no tools to convert files between formats.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the answer.
I spent a long time reading the documentation and testing.
The software is very interesting and I will buy the licence to use it even if there are some points to improve like link with French/UE bank accounts.

The main remaining decision is: Do I import my history (since 2002)?
To help, I have 2 additional questions:
    1) Will MoneyDance find the transfer from one account to another?
    2) Import is possible for QIF. Great.
It is also possible to import Security Price history.
    I read QIF specification (https://www.w3.org/2000/10/swap/pim/qif-doc/QIF-doc.htm).
Do you confirm I will be able to import my investment history (!Type:Invst)?

    Thanks for your help,

    1. Yes you can transfer money between accounts
    2. Yes you can use extensions to import security price history. But even better, use the QuoteLoader extension.
    3. Yes you can import investment data using qif. It’s fiddly.

Why not try it yourself for free.

    Hi Jean-Pierre,

I can see you’ve received some replies from our knowledgeable Moneydance customers. To add to this useful information I thought it's worth mentioning that you can download the trial version of Moneydance from our website on this page.

The trial version is fully functional and allows you to manually enter 100 transactions.

Imported transactions are not limited, so you'll be able to fully test downloading data from your bank, and importing data from other personal finance software.
If you decide to purchase the program at a later date you can keep all data you have entered during the trial period.

Additionally, it might be useful referring you to this section of the Knowledge Base about Importing Data from Other Programs.

Finally, you could consider using an extension called Quote Loader.

The latest build 321402 of Quote Loader is available within Moneydance, under Extensions –> Manage Extensions.

You can find more information about this extension on post 112 in this thread. Mike Bray, the Quote Loader developer is usually very active on this thread,

To get an overview take a look at the YouTube video by using the link on page one of the PDF.

The system provides an end to end solution, obtaining quotes from a choice of two sources and entering them into the relevant History window, all from a single window within Moneydance. The system can obtain Security Prices, Exchange Rates, Market Indices, Cryptocurrency Rates and prices for Cryptocurrency Investments. The system provides quotes from many stock exchanges, US, Canada, UK, Europe and Australia to name but a few. The process of obtaining quotes from the selected source is fast and error free.

You can download the attached PDF and follow the instructions on how to use the Quote Loader.

The PDF also contains links to a Quick Start Video Guide, a Short Tutorial Video and a Full Tutorial Video, all on YouTube.

The second PDF covers the creation and importing of Cryptocurrencies and Market Indices into Moneydance.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the answers.

This is just to let you know that I almost finished the transfer from Windows "MS Comptes bancaires" (MSoft.fr) to MoneyDance and just bought the licence.
A lot of functionalities are better than the previous software.
Somme are missing or should be improved. I will send request once I will be confortable with the current release.
"Quote Loader" is working fine for most of the securities I use and I found how to import share value history.
