Importing from Quicken
I've recently bought a MacBook Pro and have installed the trial version of Moneydance on OS Yosemite. I've always used PCs in the past and have used Quicken (UK version) on that platform for many years. I have just tried importing a QIF file into moneydance and it doesn't seem to complete fully.
Is this because Im only using the trial version?

Hi Rob,
The demo version is fully functional and allows you to manually enter 100 transactions. Imported transactions are not limited, so you'll be able to fully test connections with your bank.
When you're importing your data, can you verify that you are following these instructions?

Hi Jerome,
Yes I followed the instructions below.
I think I now have a corrupted set of old Quicken file data on my new Mac, as I have tried uninstalling and then reinstalling Moneydance twice and keep getting different results? Do you know how I can completely clear the imported data off my new Mac? Sorry about this but I’ve only ever used PCs in the past!
Best wishes,
Rob

Hi Rob,
From the Moneydance Menu Bar select: Help -> Show Documents folder. Doing so will open the folder that contains your data file. Then, close Moneydance. You can now delete your data file. Please be sure that you no longer need your data file before deleting it, as you will not be able to recover it once it's gone.

Hi Jerome,
After several more attempts I’m still unable to successfully import data from my existing Quicken 2004 accounts, which is a shame as I would really like to use your application on my new MacBook.
After removing corrupt imported data and Moneydance from my Mac I have tried at least 5 times now to start afresh and only import my main cheque account, however the old accounts are still shown on the left hand side of Moneydance and the amount in my cheque account is incorrect?
Best wishes,
Rob

Hi Rob,
Have you already set an initial balance for your account? The initial balance is not part of the data that is transferred in the QIF file you've imported. To change the Initial Balance of the account, open the account register and go to Account->Edit Account. You can enter mathematical equations in the Initial balance field in the account to calculate the amount it should be. For example if your current account balance is 1476.62, and the balance shown in Moneydance is 27.65, then enter 1476.62-27.65 (use the minus sign) in the Initial Balance field and hit enter. Moneydance will automatically calculate the proper Initial Balance.

Hi Jerome,
I’ve now tried about 30 times to set up the account without full success. I’m thinking that to get the situation reconciled I have to apply the procedure below to every single account in my Quicken file (there are about 15 of them)? I’ve tried this with a couple and as the accounts are linked it then seems to screw up the reconciled balance in another?
It’s a shame that I can’t get this to work properly as your application seems to be just what I’m after, but I’ll have to go back to square one I think and look for an alternative product.
Best wishes,
Rob
