You can import your Quicken data into Moneydance, but you'll
have to export the data out of Quicken first. Quicken stores it's
data in what's called a QDF file. QDF is a proprietary data format
owned by Intuit. Moneydance can not import QDF files. However, it
is possible to export your data out of Quicken into QIF format and
then import the QIF file into Moneydance.

I would suggest reading the
User Guide, which has information about getting started and
specifically Chapter 16/Page 88, which includes steps on how to
import your data from Quicken.

If you haven't already, I encourage you to download our free
trial version and experiment with the program before you decide if
you would like to purchase it. The demo version is fully functional
and allows you to manually enter 100 transactions. Imported
transactions are not limited, so you'll be able to fully test
importing your Quicken data. If you decide to purchase the program
at a later date you can keep all your data, the license key simply
unlocks the ability to manually enter more transactions. You can
download the trial version of Moneydance from here:

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, and thank
you for your interest in Moneydance.

Many thanks for your quick response. I will study your user
guide as suggested but would be grateful for a 25 word or less
recap of any significant limitations in Money Dance.

My Quicken data file goes back to the mid 90’s and is just under 1gb. Size is not an issue?

I download transactions from a single bank into eleven different accounts – any issues there?

I rely heavily transactions between accounts and use the Quicken transfer interface – does MD have a similar capability?

I utilize several customized reports within Quicken – are there similar reporting capabilities in MD?

Does MD have financial calculators similar to Quicken? Mortgage amortization, etc.,?

Many thanks again,

Whilst that is a very large Quicken file, it should not be a
problem - There is not a limitation with the file size in
Moneydance.

No issues with multiple banks and multiple accounts. Everything
you need to know about getting these accounts up, you can find in
the
User Guide.

Moneydance has a variety of reports, you can view each report
type and usage within the
User Guide. (Ch13/ P74)

MD does have financial calculators, for use with loans and
mortgage.
You can also download multiple extensions for MD, which can be
viewed here.

I would again, suggest downloading the free trial version, as
its fully functional and will allow you to import from Quicken and
fully test if it suits your needs. You can download the trial here
- http://infinitekind.com/downloads

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, or if you
have any other questions.

Thanks for your follow-up and comments.

I did download the trial version and entered a couple of trial
transactions to get a feel for how the program worked. Based on my
limited experimenting, I purchased a key, converted my Quicken data
file to a QIF file per the User Guide instructions and imported it
but regret, I cannot seem to get the program to run. I am running
it on a MS Surface Pro 2 (128gb) with a 128gb chip installed in the
E: drive and 4gb of memory. The data file is on MS One Drive which
is cached on the chip due to memory limitations in the Pro 2.

When I first imported the file, I was able to see a list of
accounts, some very old and closed in Quicken and most with
incorrect ending balances but that may be due to the phenomena you
suggest about the QIF file missing the opening balances. I have
subsequently closed the program, restarted the computer several
times and now cannot even get MD to open, at all.

I would be grateful for any suggestions you might have.

Can you send me your errlog.txt file? If you're using Mac OS X,
it should be located at one of these locations within your Home

or:

Just yesterday, I bought a MS Surface Pro 4/256 with 8gb of RAM.
The old installation was on a Surface Pro 2 with 2 gb of RAM. I
have not yet had an opportunity to try Money Dance on the new
machine but will do so today and revert.

Thanks for chasing this up.

I did this afternoon, install Money dance and was able to import
the .qif file (took over 20 minutes) however, the account balances
and securities information that was imported is so inaccurate, that
I am not sure I would live long enough to correct the information
– it is sixteen years of Quicken data.

In circs, I would like to request a refund of my purchase as I
simply do not have enough time remaining to correct the information
and make it usable.

In light of the constant crashing I am experiencing with
Quicken, I wish I had found Money dance years ago so I could have
made the transition.

Thank you,
