I'm very interested in trying out Moneydance for Mac OSX 10.6.8
system to replace my Quicken 2007 for Mac.
Currently have 4 years of data in main Quicken database file, and
application crashes anytime I select ad hoc
reports where I filter items from Memo or Class data fields . . .
so am ready to switch !!

However I need ability to do many ad-hoc transaction reports
with sub totals on payees, categories, and
Class [ think it is Tag in Moneydance ], so need to know if this is
possible.

Want to download older version 1st to see how it runs on Mac Pro
tower running 10.6.8, but
Moneydance zip download hangs at the 2.2 MB point. Can I get a
better link to try it?

Thanks

Victor Smithtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/365999672015-04-17T13:59:08Z2015-04-17T13:59:08ZAttempting to download trial-version Moneydance for Mac OSX 10.6.8 system

Hi Victor,

In Moneydance reports & graphs are available (categories
& tags are our equivalent to Class). Hopefully you'll be able
to successfully download the trial version, and play around with
the program first to see if it suits your needs. Can you tell me
where you were trying to download the trial from before?

If you haven't already, I encourage you to download our free
trial version and experiment with the program before you decide if
you would like to purchase it. The demo version is fully functional
and allows you to manually enter 100 transactions. Imported
transactions are not limited, so you'll be able to fully test
connections with your bank. If you decide to purchase the program
at a later date you can keep all your data, the license key simply
unlocks the ability to manually enter more transactions. You can
download the trial version of Moneydance from here:

period, check out our

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, and thank
you for your interest in Moneydance!

Thanks for your prompt reply to my email.

I was finally able to download the trial MoneyDance 2014
following your email.

I was running a network sniffer during my download attempts and
discovered

the download server was having to reconnect to my FTP
request, and eventually

disconnected.

the link I was using was
http://infinitekind.com/download_2014

At any rate, I was able to import my legacy Quicken file with
2014/2015 data,

without any issues. Some accounts had duplicate opening
balances for some

reason, so I am checking all others to ensure everything came
over into the

MD2014 application.

I must say that I was a little disappointed in the ability to
generate ad hoc transaction

reports. I was never able to show a summary of expenses
(totals by Payee).

Also because as a user, I cannot control the columns I want to
report, MoneyDance

reports causes me to use more ink/toner- due to fact that it
prints columns of

data I don't need. In fact, when I generated a
transaction report to list all medical

expenses for family members - where all I wanted was: Date,
Account, Payee, Category,

Memo, and Amount, the MD2014 application printed reports that
contained 30% more

text than the equivalent Quicken report.

[ This info was developed from taking the MD2014 report,
exporting the report to an text

delimitated file, and doing the same for the equivalent Quicken
report. After exporting

these reports, I compared the file size of each and found the
difference to be on average

about 36% in KB size. Then I compared the matrix of the
MD2014 report's that was in

excess of what was needed to be printed on paper and found it
took up about 28% of

the paper in terms of print space. ]

While its not a rigorous test, it at leasts gives you some
perspective of what I'm talking

about. Namely, why report data that is not really
needed.

I will run through some more of the MD2014 features when I
finally get the accounts

resolved and balanced. I also want to try the Budgeting
features later on.

So far MD2014 appears to be much better at having a robust
database underneath

the application. My requirement for a better Ad hoc
Transaction reporting tool

within MD2015/2015 is still a deal-breaker for me however.

The Transaction print dialog menu needs to be improved to help
users like me avoid

wasting inkl/toner by allowing us to select data fields to
print.

I am attaching a sample print menu to illustrate my points.

If you want to discuss further, just let me know by email.

Again, Thanks
