App Store Vs Download

Are there any differences between the Mac app store version and the download from the Moneydance website? I thought I had read somewhere that the app store version is crippled. Do they update at the same frequency, what about upgrading down the road/ I would like to take the trial version for a run and import my Quicken Essentials data before making the purchase but I also have $80 credit in my app store account so it would be an easier purchase for me there. However, if there are differences in the version I would purchase directly from your website.

Thanks.

    Hi Tom,

Due to restrictions mandated by Apple, the App Store version is sandboxed. I'm not going to pretend to know exactly what sandboxing entails but from what I've gleaned on these forums, there might not be the Extensions Menu item offered on the Menu bar and you might not be able to chose a user-defined location for your data.

You will not be entitled to the usual free upgrade to the next major release of Moneydance.

It has been my experience that updates come much more often using the website version. e.g. preview versions.

Personally, I would opt for the website version.

Definitely, play around with the trial version before buying it at either venue.
