I've attached a file called "md2017_convert_secondary_to_master.py" that should resolve this problem for you. Before proceeding, please back up your Moneydance data set, just in case something goes wrong. You can create a backup using the File --> Export Backup menu option.

To use the .py file, first save it to your computer and then follow these steps:

In Moneydance, select Window --> Python Scripting.

In the window that opens, select 'Open Script' then navigate to the .py file wherever you saved it on your system.

Select 'Run' to execute the file.

Wait a few moments until you see a message on screen, confirming the script has run successfully.

Once completed, navigate back to File --> Syncing, and you should now be able to select the required sync method.

Please let me know if you have any problems running the script, or if you continue to encounter issues .

I chose Dropbox Connection on both. I do not understand this name thing. The one on my laptop says Teddie E - Teddie 2 4 and the iMac says Teddie 2 4 - Teddie 2 4. Shouldn’t they say the same and how do I make them the same?

teddiemtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/448153822018-02-28T15:08:33Z2018-02-28T15:08:33ZSyncing between 2 computers

The file name may have changed if there was already a data set with the same name in the default location used to store data sets. However, you should be able to rename your data set. I would always recommend creating a backup of your data before making any changes. You can do this by going to File --> Export Backup.

If you're using the default location for Moneydance data files, from the Moneydance menu bar go to Help --> Show Documents Folder.

A file browser will open to the default location for Moneydance data sets. You should also see your '.moneydance' data sets there. Take note of this location.

Close Moneydance.

Rename yourfilename.moneydance to the desired name making sure to retain the .moneydance file extension.

The next time that you start Moneydance you'll likely be greeted by the Welcome Screen. Click on the 'Open Other' option and navigate to your newly renamed data set.

I hope this information is helpful, please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

There is new data on the laptop that is not showing on Imac even though I see dropbox connection and have messages that files are changing? So frustrating.

I'd like to arrange a TeamViewer session to see if we can get things straightened out and remove these duplicate data sets. Do you have any free time this week? I'm based in the UK (GMT) so hopefully we can accommodate any time difference, I can be fairly flexible in terms of availability.

I can be free Thursday early in the morning, 7 my time and on for a few hours. Trying to figure out your time difference. I did finally backup the file on my laptop and was able to save it in the cloud and restore from backup on my iMac so the balances do match. The names on the top still aren’t exactly the same. If these times don’t work, then we can wait until next week as I will be more free. Thank you for trying to help me. I did go into the finder and put some file names into the trash.
Thursday at 7am your time would be ideal, by my reckoning that would be midday GMT. I've added this to the calendar. If you've never used TeamViewer before, you can download it from here - https://www.teamviewer.com/en/

When you're ready to get connected on Thursday, open TeamViewer and you'll see a 9 digit ID and a password. If you send me these details, I'll get connected to your system.

Just following up on our TeamvIewer session with the information regarding reminders. Reminders can be accessed in Moneydance via Tools --> Reminders, and select 'New Transaction Reminder'. You can enter the relevant transaction details, and enter the 'repeat' frequency for the transaction. You can also have the transaction enter the register manually or automatically by using the 'Auto-Commit' option. Selecting '0' days will enter the transaction on the selected date. You can read more about Reminders within this this article.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have any questions.
