If you are syncing to mobile devices, such as phones you have to use Dropbox.
Note the Dropbox API used in the Moneydance mobile APP does not count toward the 3 limit imposed by Dropbox on there free account. This assumes you do not have an official Dropbox mobile APP installed on the mobile device for other reasons.
This means up to 3 computers and as many mobile devices as you like.

If you are only syncing between computers you can used other cloud based servers.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/473379202019-06-09T15:30:36Z2019-06-09T15:30:36ZLeaving Dropbox

Hi Derek,

Thank you for your reply.

I am afraid the problem is not just Moneydance as other apps on my phone do mean the phone counts towards the three device limit. In addition, I use Moneydance across four computers. Thus I want to remove myself from Dropbox altogether.

Having said that, I don’t use Moneydance on my phone. So getting back to my original question, how do I change from syncing on Dropbox to syncing via Google Drive? I have not been able to find this anywhere in the settings.

Cheers,

To sync computers using a cloud server other than Dropbox.

Your Primary computer is the computer on which the syncing method is not greyed out.

Use your file browser to create a new folder in the shared drive you intend to use to sync Moneydance to other computers. Name this folder for example “Moneydance Shared Folder”.

Open Moneydance on your primary computer under FILE (MONEYDANCE on Mac) – SYNCING. Set “Sync Method” to “Shared Folder” using the dropdown.

A new box appears “Select Shared Folder”, click on this box.

A file browser screen will appear. Navigate to the shared folder you created to sync your Moneydance data set. In this example “Moneydance Shared Folder” and click “Open”, then click OK. Moneydance will create an alphanumeric folder in your selected folder to hold your syncing data. Allow time for this folder and its contents to be synced to your other computers.

On each of your other computers starting Moneydance should open them in the welcome window, click on “Create a new account set”. Or if it opens in to an existing data set click FILE (MONEYDANCE on Mac) - NEW

Select “Open Synced File” and use dropdown to select “Shared Folder” then click NEXT.

Click “Select Shared Folder”. A file browser screen will appear. Navigate to the folder you have designated as a shared syncing folder. In this example highlight “Moneydance Shared Folder” and click “Open”. Don’t select the alphanumeric folder that was created.

The screen should now show you are connected to your designated shared folder, click “NEXT”.

You may see a search screen headed “Finding synced files” which will be followed by “Select a synced document to open”

Highlight the data set name you want to sync with and click NEXT.

Enter the encryption password, the “Encryption Passphrase” you have on your primary computer under FILE (MONEYDANCE on Mac) – SYNCING. When entered correctly the FINISH button is ungreyed.

Then click on FINISH. You should see the message “Performing initial sync this may take a while”.

Wait to syncing is complete.

You may find a lot of old, maybe closed accounts or other accounts you have removed from the side bar reappearing in the second computers side bar. Use the “+” sign at bottom of side bar then ADVANCED to tidy up the side bar.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/473379202019-06-09T19:40:39Z2019-06-09T19:40:39ZLeaving Dropbox

Thank you for your swift and comprehensive reply. Once I’ve worked out which the primary computer is I’ll give it a go.

Many thanks,
