Money Syncing is disabled.
Hello;
My version of Moneydance has now disabled syncing with my Dropbox account and has no 'Enable' box under 'File-Syncing'. Is this a known problem?

Hi Glen
First a bit about syncing. You have one primary computer, the one you first set up syncing on using MONEYDANCE – SYNCING and any number of secondary computers set up using MONEYDANCE – NEW – OPEN SYNCED FILE. You can change the sync method on your primary computer but not on a secondary computer.
However, if you restore your primary computer from a secondary computer backup your syncing method will be greyed out and you will not be able to change it. Make sure the auto backups for the primary and secondary computers are not set to use the same location if you are say using Dropbox.
It is possible to convert a secondary data set to a primary data set if you find all your computers have a secondary data set.
If you think this the case I can post a script to convert a secondary data set to a primary data set.
Hope this helps.

Hello. I believe I am experiencing the issue mentioned by derekkent23 of having all secondary data sets. I don't recall the history of my data file but I have changed computers and operating systems several times. At some point my sync was disabled and the option is greyed out. If I create a new data set the sync option is available, so it is specific to that data set. I am currently using version 2019.3 (1880) on Archlinux. Would you be able to post your script or explain the steps needed to convert the data set to primary?

Hi,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.
I've attached a file called "convert_secondary_to_master.py" that should resolve this problem for you. Before using the file, you can take a backup of your Moneydance data set, using the File --> Export Backup.
To use the .py file, first save it to your computer and then follow these steps:
Once completed, navigate back to File --> Syncing, and you should now be able to select the required sync method.
Please letus know if you have any problems running the script, or if you continue to encounter issues .

Hi Travis.
Maddy left out one important step.
After the script has run you must close and then reopen Moneydance again before you are able to change the syncing method under FILE – SYNCING.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for the script and instructions. It resolved my sync problem.
Browsing the forums I see now that this sync problem is a recurring one. As a suggestion, some indication on the sync dialog when the data file is a secondary copy might aid searching.
I did run into a separate problem: the Moneybot Console window did not open on my linux version of Moneydance. Everything went smoothly inside a windows vm though.
Thanks again.
