when you click on Tools, Budget Manager. You should get a small pop up that allows you to create a budget file name. After that the process to enter values to budget is dependent on whether you chose the default budget type (New Style), or selected the Mixed Interval type, (Old Style)
On the New Style, you click the Budget name you created that should show up now in the left panel, (be patient, the new style is slow to load). Then you click the "0" in the right column under the current month and enter a budget amount. (be patient again, it takes a bit to open for editing the value) You do that until you have everything you want budgeted, then you can click Budgeted at the top to filter only on the ones you set a budget. Then for each new month, you dropdown when you enter a new month and choose to copy the previous month period.
If you use the Old Style, (which I prefer and is responsive), you open the budget file name from the left panel to show the budget register. It will be blank if its new so you will need to click Edit to add budget items. You also have the option to calculate the budget from prior history, but I have found it easier to just enter everything manually. To do that you just click the "+" sign at the bottom and then complete the fields to add the amount, categories and intervals. You can set a start and optionally a stop date for any item and the budget will continue automatically to the future months. Once you have completed the budget , you click OK, then you should see all your budgeted info. Please note that payments to loans or any other account that is set up in MD will not be picked up by the budgeting application for some vague reasoning. You can budget loan payments, but you will need to do some work around stuff to get it set up. Just search for "budget loan payments" in the Budget discussions and you will see different ways of doing that.

Hopefully that will get you up and running.

mhoggie
