On the default budget (new style), the $159 of 0 just indicates expense for that category where no budget amount has been set. I would suggest setting up your budget using the period setting of mixed interval. That is the MD (old style) budget and it responds much faster and you can set up budgets that continue on into the future without needing to copy last months budget. Also when you click on that budget, it will show the budget and how much has been spent in that category so far for the month or whatever period you set. It edit's differently than the default budget by clicking the Edit button to add (+)change or delete (-) budget amounts. I think the old style mixed interval budget runs circles around the new style. Also be aware on both budget styles, MD will not pick up loan/mortgage payments or any kind of account to account transfer as a budget item. You need to do a few tricks to make that work for you if you want to track loan payments in an MD budget.

mhoggietag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/476886882019-10-03T15:08:51Z2019-10-03T15:08:51Zwhy dont you explain ...

thanks for taking the time to try and help. but raises more questions: * how do go to old style budget? * i do not find any edit button with change and delete for budget amounts. * i only find Edit Budget List. *where do i say mixed interval? *what exactly are the tabs Budgeted and Active for ?

jmorgietag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/476886882019-10-03T15:49:49Z2019-10-03T15:49:49Zwhy dont you explain ...

just a user,

Yeah, its a bit hidden. You click Tools, Budget Manager, New, Budget name (whatever you want), and use the Period drop down to select Mixed Intervals (Old Style).

Once you have the new Mixed Interval budget created, you select that budget from the side bar (I think it appears by default) and then click Edit to set up your budget items. A could of quirks that may confuse you. Enter a new budget item by clicking the + sign at the bottom. The new item will show up at the bottom of the budget listing initially so if you don't see it, scroll to the bottom. Also once you enter the category, the list will try to resort itself alphabetically which will confuse you because you think it disappeared. But it will be there in alphabetical order so you can add the amounts and time range as need. (They should wait to resort until you have entered all info, MD issue). Give it a try.

mhoggie
