I have received no support on this issue. Is help going to be available to me? This is an important feature that is totally disappeared from the software. Please advise or let me know if you are not able to help.

Thank you,

Which budget format are you using?

There are two types of budget available within Moneydance, and you can read about them both in this section of the knowledge base.

You should navigate to Tools —> Budget Manager, and select ‘New’. You can then enter the budget name and select the ‘period’.
Selecting either Weekly, Biweekly, Monthly or Annually will create budget using this time period, and the 'Newer' budget format.
Selecting Mixed Interval will create an older style budget, which can have categories with different time intervals.

I would recommend using the 'Mixed Interval' format. Using the budget type, you can amend the start and end date for each budget item, and they're not set as the specific month/year etc.

Please note the budget feature picks up all expenses based upon the categories used. So you could not limit the budget to one account for instance, unless you built a separate set of categories to only be used by that account.

Using the Foresight feature under the Tools tab on the other hand, will allow you to predict your future balances for just one account based upon your current balance and your reminders.
For further information please refer to this article of the Knowledge Base.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

Thank you for your helpful reply. I’ve been trying to use the “Monthly” budget. I’ll now try to Mixed Interval Budget type. Everything else I’ve done as you described below. I’ll get back to you quickly with the result. I’m also getting ready to try running Moneydance on a different computer to see if something about the configuration of my work computer (described in the original support request) is to blame for the disappearance of the popup menu. I actually have studied the documentation and support material online closely and repeatedly and will continue to do so in case I have failed to notice something, but, bottom line is that there is not a popup menu present as described in those materials. I’ll continue working on this and let you know what I find.

Thanks,
Have you tried clicking on the "Date" (there is a downward arrow next to it) in the top row?
Doing so, should display the options listed in the attachment.

I’ve began revisiting this immediately after my reply to your email. It’s been interesting:

I restarted my iMac (specs described in initial email) and got very strange behavior. It required that I re-authorize Accessibility for several add-ons I run on my Mac like PopClip, Keyboard Maestro, Default Folder, etc. I use a lot of add-ons and always have. It took a couple of restarts to get everything back running.

When I opened Moneydance and looked at the Monthly Budget, the popup indicators were now visible. So it appears this problem is intermittent and may have something to do with compatibility within my personal Mac ecosystem. For certain, the popups you mentioned are the ones I expected to see and they were not there previously. They are still not available, and never have been, when scrolling through prior months. I imagine this is the way it is designed to be, which seems a shame since being able to see past budget comparisons would have been very helpful.

I’m currently taking a look at the Mixed Interval budget type as you recommended. I’ve just gotten started with it but I think I’m going to really like it better.

I’ll let you know how it works out. I appreciate your help very much,

Sincerely,
