Importing transactions and assigning categories; new user
I've been using YNAB for years and want to move to Moneydance. I've created/edited my categories now I'm ready to populate the budget. I've tried importing .qif files from my bank but nothing seems to happen. Don't I need to put my bank transactions into the correct categories?
thanks for the help

QIF files obtain from Banks will rarely contain categories and they are usually wrong when they do. For example my bank tries to categorize expenses in an online display. They decided I had bought a few hundred dollars worth of fast food, my optometrist name is McDonald .....
After you import a QIF file you need to go through the confirmation process where you assign categories to transactions, see:

OK. But where is the register? I don't see anywhere that any of the transactions show up? I don't see any transactions anywhere

Given that transactions for accounts are the primary way of looking at everything (and you can see "account registers" on the main marketing page, I'd suggest you look at the online knowledge base to get an overview of how things work. (You can click on Knowledge Base at the top of the page)

OK. Let me ask another question: Can I assign my income (salary) paid to me this month show up as available budget for September? In other words, can Moneydance we used for zero-based budgeting?
