There are two ways to edit tags.
1. By directly editing them in the transaction
2. By using the Find and Replace extension.
To answer the question posed in the topic Tags are really used as a sub filtering mechanism in some reports, rather than being a direct reporting selection mechanism in their own right, there has been some discussion as to if there should be more tag reporting with them as a primary selection criteria.

Hi Lynn,
I can see you’ve received a reply from one of our knowledgeable Moneydance customers. To add to this useful information you can also refer to this article.
Using the Find and Replace extension you'll set the search fields in the 'Find' panel on the left. Then choose 'Find'. This will display a number of transactions at the bottom of the window.
In the panel on the right, select 'Modify Tags'. Then specify 'Add tags', 'Remove tags', or 'Replace all with', and choose the tag you'd like to use.
Once you've picked the settings you need, choose 'Replace' or 'Replace All' at the bottom of the panel on the right.
If you're happy with the changes press 'Record', then 'Done'.
You should create any tags you want to use before opening the extension. To do this, simply enter the tag into the 'tag' field of any transaction. To add multiple tags to one transaction, just separate them with a comma.
You can find information about tags in this article from the knowledge base.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.
