Trouble Editing Budgets

Hello,

I seem to be having some trouble editing my budget. If I open the Budget Manager and click the Edit button nothing comes up. When I try to manually adjust the amounts of the second zero, they either don't change or they add the new amount I entered to what was already in the column. I cannot figure out how to clear the budget so that I can start over.

    Hi Michelle,

In Moneydance 2015, there are two budget formats - Mixed Interval/Older budgets, and the Newer budget format.

Go to Tools --> Budget Manager --> New. You can then enter the budget name and the period.

Selecting either Weekly, Biweekly, Monthly or Annually will create budget using this time period, and the newer budget format, which you can read about here. To set the amount in this type of budget, click the right number (it'll be 0 if you haven't budgeted anything for that category) and enter the amount that you want to budget for that category.

Selecting 'Mixed Interval' as the period when creating a budget will create an older style budget, which can have categories with different time intervals. You can read about Mixed Interval budgets here. Create a Mixed Interval Budget, select it in the side bar, then you can select 'Edit' at the top right of the register which will show the 'Edit Budget' window.

    Thanks Jenny,
The trouble I'm having is with a budget I have already created. I want to adjust the amounts to reflect some changes in income and expenses, but I can't seem to edit my existing budget...do I have to start over with a new budget? =) Michelle

    Hi Michelle,

Have you created a newer style budget, or a mixed interval budget?

If you are using a newer budget, select this in the sidebar, then you can edit the amounts by selecting the second '0', entering the correct amount and pressing enter to register the change.

Using the mixed interval budgets, select the budget in the sidebar, then there will be an 'Edit' button at the top right of the register, which will open the 'Edit Budget' window, and you can make changes from there.

If its not allowing you to make changes to your budget, can you send me a screenshot of what you're seeing so I can better understand the issue? You can read instructions for taking a screenshot here.

Alternatively, you could create a new budget and let me know if you encounter the same issues.

Yes, I have created a newer style budget.
Now that it is March 1 I seem to be able to edit the amounts, but I have to enter 0 several times to clear out the amount from last month. For April I won't try to copy from a previous month and hopefully be able to avoid this problem. It just seems to be very difficult to clear the second "0"s amount.  =) Michelle

    Hi Michelle,

I've just noticed an existing bug ticket in our ticketing system regarding a similar issue.

It appears that after selecting 'Copy Previous Period' in the new budget format, the prior periods budgets are locked and cannot be amended.

Could you confirm the version of Moneydance you're running so we can check if this is the same issue? To do this run Moneydance and select Help --> Console Window. Then, copy and paste the first few lines of the output of the console window to this discussion, it should read - Starting Moneydance version ( build )
